Tecate books street sweeper Macario onto the Pal Norte lineup within 8 hours — Clio golds

When Mexico City street sweeper Macario went viral in a Tecate jacket, the brand put him on its festival lineup within hours — 22.6M Spotify streams followed.

Tecate (Heineken México)

The ideaSkip the celebrity: bet on a real fan. Within eight hours of Macario's unscripted moment, book him onto the Pa'l Norte lineup and film his journey from street to stage.substantial

What it had to solve

Tecate already owned Mexico's biggest music festivals but wanted deeper engagement with young audiences, especially in central Mexico. Celebrity sponsorships were expensive and interchangeable; the brand needed belief, not budget.

How it works

Macario Martínez was a Mexico City street sweeper posting his own songs on TikTok. When he appeared on his first podcast wearing his favorite Tecate jacket — unpaid, unscripted, a genuine fan — the brand saw more than a viral moment.

While everyone else watched, LePub México and Tecate moved. Less than eight hours later they announced Macario on the lineup of Tecate Pa'l Norte, the country's biggest music festival and a stage usually reserved for global stars. They made a fair deal, then filmed the journey: his first flight, his first crowd, his first festival stage.

The results were measured in attention no media budget could buy: his interview video passed 10 million views, the festival announcement did 4.1 million organic views, and within 30 days Macario logged 22.6 million Spotify streams, +341K new followers, +292% Instagram and +142% YouTube growth.

The work collected bronzes at El Ojo 2025 and three golds plus two bronzes at Clio Music 2026, and Tecate was shortlisted for Clio's Brand of the Year.

Why it lands

  • Speed was the idea: reacting in hours made Tecate the first and only brand in the story.
  • A real fan's authenticity beat any scripted celebrity endorsement.
  • The documentary turned one moment into a narrative people could follow and share.
  • Zero media spend meant every impression was earned, not bought.

What it did

Within 30 days Macario gained 22.6M Spotify streams, +341K followers, +292% Instagram and +142% YouTube growth; his interview passed 10M views. El Ojo 2025 gave the work bronzes, and Clio Music 2026 gave it three golds and two bronzes.

What you can take

Belief is a media strategy: betting on an authentic fan before the story went mainstream earned tens of millions of organic impressions at zero media spend.

Since then

Macario went on to play Vive Latino and EDC México, composed a song for HBO's The Last of Us and kept collaborating with brands; the case became a template for fan-first, real-time marketing in Latin America.
