Delivereasy's radio war on the outside world — Spikes Asia 2026 Audio Grand Prix

Food delivery app sells staying in: radio spots list vivid outdoor horrors so takeout wins — Spikes Asia 2026 Audio Grand Prix.

The ideaInstead of selling food, sell staying home: radio spots list vividly awful things outside — sunburn, ex-girlfriends, street condoms — so takeout sounds like the escape.incremental

What it had to solve

Delivereasy, a New Zealand-owned food delivery app, had to take on the offshore muscle of Uber Eats. Colenso BBDO noticed the app's real advantage — customers never have to go outside — and that outside is full of small, funny horrors. Radio was the perfect medium because listeners hear it while they are literally out in that world.

How it works

Delivereasy is a New Zealand-owned food delivery app competing with global players like Uber Eats. Its overlooked advantage, Colenso BBDO reasoned, is that customers never need to go outside — and outside, at street level, is full of small absurdities. So instead of talking about food, the agency went to war with the outside world.

The result was a series of tight 30-second radio spots — 'Killer Bees', 'Crippled Pigeons' and 'Street Condoms' — that rattled off vivid outdoor horrors: sunburn, your ex-girlfriend, Andrew Tate, outdoor Shakespeare theatre. Every scenario had to be 'vivid, oddly specific, and straight-up weird', and the copy was written to be read aloud with a fast, chaotic rhythm.

Radio was the point: listeners hear the spots while they are actually out and about, facing those exact annoyances. The ads closed with the tagline 'Leave a Better Taste in Your Mouth' and a mouth-made audio mnemonic that had anchored the brand for two years. The campaign went on to win the Audio & Radio Grand Prix at Spikes Asia 2026 and a D&AD Pencil.

Why it lands

  • It advertises the avoidance instead of the product, so the emotional payoff — relief from the outside world — lands before any food claim.
  • Radio is where listeners are literally outside, making the joke hit in the moment it is told.
  • Oddly specific details make the spots feel personal and quotable, so listeners retell the best lines.
  • A weird, human-made audio mnemonic gives an audio-only brand a signature that outlasts any single ad.

What it did

Won the Audio & Radio Grand Prix at Spikes Asia 2026, took a D&AD Pencil and reached the LIA 2025 finals, while the weird mouth-made mnemonic became a repeatable sound signature for the brand.

What you can take

When the real benefit is avoidance, advertise the thing being avoided: painting the outside world as vividly absurd makes staying home the hero — and radio hits listeners while they're out in it.

Since then

The campaign kept circulating through 2025 award shows, collecting a D&AD Pencil and LIA finalist status before taking the Spikes Asia 2026 Audio & Radio Grand Prix. For Delivereasy it cemented a sound identity — the mouth-made mnemonic — that the brand continued to use, showing a small local player could out-create far bigger rivals on wit alone.
