Creamotherapy: Nutri-Ice turns cancer nutrition into a scoop of real ice cream
For cancer patients who can't eat, My Doctor's Recipe made a supplement that looks, tastes and smells like ice cream — Nutri-Ice, Eurobest 2025 Innovation GP.
My Doctor's Recipe (Nutri-Ice)
What it had to solve
Cancer treatment causes nausea, mouth and throat ulcers, and altered taste and smell, making eating painful; around 80% of standard meal-replacement supplements get discarded, and commercial ice cream — the one food many patients can still tolerate — is empty calories. My Doctor's Recipe, a Dornoch health brand, wanted real nutrition in a form patients could enjoy.
How it works
Cancer treatment brings nausea, mouth and throat ulcers, and altered senses of taste and smell, so eating — let alone finishing a nutritional supplement — becomes a painful battle. Around 80% of standard meal-replacement supplements are discarded, leaving patients under-nourished at the exact moment nutrition matters most, while commercial ice cream, one of the few foods many patients can still tolerate, carries no nutritional value.
Dornoch-based brand My Doctor's Recipe, with Havas Lynx, decided the problem was the supplement's form, not the patient. Nutri-Ice is a frozen oral nutritional supplement engineered to look, taste and smell like ice cream: patented micro-encapsulated vitamins and minerals deliver real nutrition without changing flavour or texture, portions were reduced to be manageable, and the product stays frozen for about 60 minutes at a patient's bedside.
Creamotherapy launched in March 2025 as both product and campaign: trial packs went out through oncology units, GP surgeries and specialist dieticians, supported by white papers, digital campaigns and an education site for healthcare professionals that framed nutrition as part of treatment. The creative work kept a warm, human-centred visual language, balancing clinical rigour with comfort.
Nutri-Ice became the first frozen oral supplement to gain prescription status and is used in more than ten hospitals, with a 400% increase in patient adherence over standard supplements and an average of over 1,000 extra calories consumed per patient. The campaign won the Eurobest 2025 Innovation Grand Prix, a D&AD pencil and a 2025 LIA Silver for Evolution Product Innovation, and it continues to roll out across healthcare settings.
Why it lands
- It treats the patient's sensory reality — taste, smell, texture, pain — as the design problem, not just the nutrient formula.
- By making the supplement something patients already crave (ice cream), it removes the single biggest reason supplements fail: rejection.
- The same object is both the product and the campaign, so the medicine itself carries the message that nutrition matters in cancer care.
- It works at every level of the system: patients eat more, hospitals see fewer complications and shorter stays, and clinicians get an evidence-backed tool.
What it did
Nutri-Ice became the first frozen oral supplement to gain prescription status; it is used in over ten hospitals, with a 400% increase in patient adherence versus standard supplements and an average of over 1,000 extra calories consumed per patient. The campaign won the Eurobest 2025 Innovation Grand Prix, a D&AD pencil and a 2025 LIA Silver for Evolution Product Innovation.
What you can take
Match the medicine to the patient's lived experience, not the format's convenience: when a product is rejected, redesign the experience around what people can still enjoy, not just the dose.
Since then
Creamotherapy kept rolling out after launch: Nutri-Ice is now used in more than ten hospitals across the UK and continues to expand into healthcare settings. The campaign collected the Eurobest 2025 Innovation Grand Prix, a D&AD pencil and a 2025 LIA Silver for Evolution Product Innovation, after being shortlisted at Cannes 2025. My Doctor's Recipe framed the product as a movement to bring pleasure back to eating during treatment, with healthcare-professional education continuing through white papers and the HCP website.
