Miele's Dreams outdoor kitchen brings indoor precision outside — iF Gold 2026

Miele's first outdoor kitchen 'Dreams' brings indoor kitchen design to the garden as a modular grill-centered system — iF Gold 2026.

Miele

The ideaTransfer Miele's indoor kitchen expertise outdoors for the first time: 'Dreams', a modular outdoor kitchen built around the grill that users expand step by step.substantial

What it had to solve

Premium outdoor cooking usually meant standalone barbecues. Miele — 125 years of indoor kitchen engineering — asked whether the same materials, technology and design language could move outside and give outdoor cooking real kitchen status.

How it works

Outdoor cooking had long been the domain of the barbecue: a grill, a cart, maybe a side table. Miele, a premium appliance maker whose brand promise is 'Immer Besser', decided its first outdoor kitchen would not be a bigger grill but a transfer of its indoor kitchen philosophy to the garden.

The result, 'Dreams', is a modular system built around the Fire Pro IQ gas grill as the centerpiece. Customers add modules step by step — a hob for sauces and sides, a top-heat grill for extreme temperatures, a fully equipped sink module, an outdoor fridge, storage drawers — with more than 60 coordinated accessories. Six preconfigured configurations, from compact 'Dome' and 'Rise' set-ups to fully equipped L-shaped 'Master' and 'Signature' kitchens, give people a starting point.

The product family was designed with the same clean lines, durable materials and intelligent technology as Miele's indoor appliances, and a webshop configurator lets customers plan, rearrange and pre-order their own configuration. Launched with around 300 specialist retail partners in the DACH region, it redefined what outdoor cooking could be offered at premium level.

The iF jury awarded the outdoor kitchen Gold at the iF Design Award 2026 — the highest distinction, reserved for only 75 of more than 10,000 entries — and Miele took 19 iF awards in total, including a second Gold for the KFFD 6867 fridge-freezer.

Why it lands

  • Miele treated outdoors as a new room of the kitchen rather than a new barbecue category, importing its full indoor design language.
  • The modular system — grill as core, expandable with hob, sink and fridge modules — lets customers grow the kitchen with their needs instead of buying one fixed configuration.
  • Six preconfigured layouts plus a digital configurator removed the blank-page problem for first-time outdoor-kitchen buyers.
  • Materials and construction rated for 365 days outdoors made premium claims credible rather than decorative.
  • The iF Gold — from over 10,000 entries — validated that consistency of design and user focus transfers across categories.

What it did

The 'Dreams' outdoor kitchen won iF Design Award 2026 Gold — one of only 75 Golds from more than 10,000 entries worldwide — alongside Miele's KFFD 6867 fridge-freezer, in a 19-award year for Miele.

What you can take

When entering a new setting, bring the parent category's entire system — materials, design language, service model — instead of a single product; that is what turns a barbecue into a kitchen.

Since then

Launched at IFA 2025 and pre-orderable in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from spring 2026, 'Dreams' marked Miele's entry into the 'Outdoor Cooking' category. Its iF Gold 2026 (with the KFFD 6867 also taking Gold, in a 19-award haul) cemented the outdoor kitchen as a genuine new product line for the brand rather than a one-off grill.
