What it had to solve
Headspace wanted a lighthearted campaign showing the app helps with everyday stresses — January's return to work, post-holiday blues, resolution pressure and dark days in particular.
The idea
Grade the whole film cold and harsh — fluorescent office, red traffic beams — then flood the frame with warmth the moment Leanne opens Headspace
How it works
Directed by Tim Wheeler through Farm League with Headspace's internal creatives, the spot follows protagonist Leanne dragging the Christmas tree to the bin and sitting stuck in traffic. Cold, uninviting colour dominates — harsh fluorescent office light, intrusive red beams, damp discomfort — until she opens Headspace at home and the palette shifts warm. Farm League founder Tim Lynch called the process one continuous brainstorm with Headspace creatives Neal and Eric.
What it did
No view or subscription figures are reported; the spot extends a repeat Headspace–Farm League partnership built on relatable everyday stress.
Background
In February 2023 meditation app Headspace released 'Meh-uary', a playful film made with creative film company Farm League that treats January as the 'Monday of months' — the dreaded return to work, post-holiday blues, the pressure of new year's resolutions and cold, darker days.
Directed by Tim Wheeler, the spot follows Leanne through a series of relatable miseries — dragging the Christmas tree to the bin, stuck in traffic — photographed in deliberately hostile colours: harsh fluorescent office light, intrusive red beams from surrounding traffic, damp and uncomfortable streets. When she gets home and opens Headspace, warmth enters the palette as she finally feels at ease.
Farm League founder Tim Lynch said the theme of mindfulness and mental health mattered to the studio and noted it followed a previous round of collaboration with Headspace; he described working with the app's internal creative team as a free flow of ideas, 'one continuous creative brainstorming session' from brief to set to post.
Why it lands
The argument is made with the colour grade, not claims — warmth arrives exactly when the product does.
Relatable comedy lowers the defences wellness apps usually face; the stresses shown are mundane and true.
It stakes out an annual slot — the January blues — the brand can own every year.
What you can take
Show the product working through cinematography: let the colour grade do the before-and-after the copy claims.
Since then
The film launched in February 2023; no performance figures appear in the source.
