What it had to solve
Desperados, the tequila-flavoured beer known in Europe for wild parties since 1992, watched its young drinkers go out less, stay online more and struggle to let loose. Latin music and culture were booming across Europe, yet the brand's Latin soul was being outshone by the culture it came from.
The idea
Don't advertise a vibe, release one: make a genuine reggaeton track with real Latin stars and launch it the way music is launched, not the way ads are.
How it works
Desperados and LePub produced and released an original reggaeton track, 'Guao Guao', with Latin Grammy-winning producer Ovy on the Drums and Venezuelan star Micro TDH, accompanied by a music video from Rosalía's creative team and promotion handled by MassiveMusic. It launched on streaming and artist channels like a real release, then spread through Spotify-code 'Vibe Nails' kits, a simplified perreo-inspired dance that went viral on TikTok, and 'Avenida Desperados' street-party takeovers across European cities.
What it did
The song hit the Apple Music top 10 in 23 countries, reached five million listeners, earned 90 remixes worldwide and an official Latin Grammy selection. Cannes Lions 2025 gave it a Gold and a Silver in Film Craft, D&AD 2025 awarded a Yellow Pencil for Casting, and the 'Beer with Latin Vibe' platform rolled out to more than 30 markets.
Background
Desperados, the tequila-flavoured beer famous in Europe for wild parties since 1992, faced a quiet crisis: European Gen Z was going out less, staying online more and struggling to let go. Rather than persuade them to party, the brand and agency LePub looked to Latin America, where young audiences were still embracing the party spirit with full force.
The insight was that Latinity had stopped being about nationality and become an attitude — Pedro Pascal, Jenna Ortega and Bad Bunny were proof that the Latin vibe travelled across borders. So instead of explaining that vibe, Desperados decided to make one: an original reggaeton track called 'Guao Guao', produced with Latin Grammy winner Ovy on the Drums and Venezuelan rapper Micro TDH, with music supervision by MassiveMusic.
The song launched exactly like a music release — teasers, streaming rollouts and artist social channels — with a music video from the team behind Rosalía's clips as the hero asset. To keep the beat spreading, celebrity nail artist Coca Michelle created 'Vibe Nails' kits carrying a Spotify code, seeded to influencers across Europe, while choreographer Kirsten Dodgen stripped perreo and bachata down to a simple dance that took off on TikTok.
'Guao Guao' reached the Apple Music top 10 in 23 countries, five million listeners and 90 remixes, and earned an official Latin Grammy selection. Cannes Lions 2025 awarded it Gold and Silver in Film Craft, D&AD 2025 gave LePub a Yellow Pencil in Casting, and the campaign became the first output of Desperados' new 'Beer with Latin Vibe' platform across more than 30 markets.
Why it lands
A brand telling Gen Z to party sounds like homework; handing them a track their peers already dance to needs no permission or persuasion.
Real artists, a real release and real streaming placements made the song indistinguishable from culture, so it travelled on music platforms instead of ad platforms.
The dance was built to be copied — simple enough to remix on TikTok — turning listeners into performers who kept the campaign alive organically.
Every layer, from Spotify-code nail kits to street parties, pointed back to one beat, so the song became the brand rather than an ad for it.
What you can take
When the audience trusts culture more than commercials, the most credible ad is a real artefact of that culture — a genuine song released the way music is released.
Since then
'Guao Guao' outlived the campaign: it stayed in global playlists, earned an official Latin Grammy selection and was still being remixed and danced to months after launch. For Desperados it became the template for a new 'Beer with Latin Vibe' platform that shifted the brand from advertising to artist and creator collaborations across more than 30 markets. The industry followed: a Gold and Silver Lion at Cannes 2025 in Film Craft, a D&AD Yellow Pencil for Casting, and a London International Awards Gold for performance and casting.
