The model scaled: Automattic grew past 950 employees in 71 countries by 2019, past 1,300 in 76 countries by 2020, and to about 1,700 staff in 89 countries by 2021, with roughly $1 billion raised and a $7.5 billion valuation behind WordPress, which powers an estimated 42% of websites. TechCrunch called Automattic a role model that proved remote culture can work at scale.
