What it had to solve
Xbox now sells the Elite family in three flavours: the classic black Series 2, the white Core model, and a Design Lab custom build — and needed one campaign to reposition the whole line from hardcore accessory to something every passionate gamer deserves.
The idea
Cast the Elite Series 2 like a coveted '80s/'90s breakfast cereal — athlete on the box, jaunty jingle — so 'Elite' stops meaning pro-only.
How it works
A 45-second hero spot, 'Xbox Elite Cereal: Feed what makes you Elite', with an original jingle co-written and directed by Mutiny ECD Noah Eichen; fabricated Elite-themed cereal boxes starring influencers Myth, Loserfruit and Chica, who pushed content on their own channels; plus 25 personalised kits with custom boxes and controllers sent to global creators.
What it did
The campaign rolled out across the hero spot and influencer content on TikTok and beyond. The material reports no sales or view figures; its stated aim was to make 'Elite' mean exceptional performance for every gaming style, from weekend Minecraft to Diablo IV.
Background
Mutiny, Trailer Park Group's dedicated videogame branding agency, built the rollout for Xbox's family of Elite controllers around one problem: the Elite had been reserved for gaming's elite, and Xbox wanted the Series 2 line in more general hands. The line now came in classic black, a white Core model, and an Xbox Design Lab customisable build with a chosen name, design and colour scheme.
The creative answer was 'Xbox Elite Cereal: Feed what makes you Elite' — a 45-second commercial styled on the jaunty, jingle-driven breakfast cereal ads of the '80s and '90s, complete with the coveted athlete-adorned cereal box. Mutiny designed and fabricated real Xbox Elite-themed cereal boxes, each featuring the face of a gaming influencer — Myth, Loserfruit and Chica — with games and activities printed on the back panel.
The three hero influencers created content for their own social channels including TikTok, and Mutiny produced an extra 25 personalised kits for a roster of global creators, each with a custom cereal box and a personalised Elite Series 2 controller.
Xbox integrated marketing manager Courtney Luk framed the product truth: 'There's an Elite controller for every passionate gamer,' no matter whether you play Minecraft on the weekend or take on demons in Diablo IV. ECD Noah Eichen directed the spot and co-wrote the jingle; the whole effort was executed in-house at Mutiny across Trailer Park Group and partners, from box fabrication to colouring-book illustration and CG controller renders.
Why it lands
The cereal metaphor does the repositioning work: 'Elite' becomes a flavour you pick, not a rank you haven't earned.
Physical cereal boxes turn an accessory launch into shareable influencer merchandise, with the audience doing the distribution.
It sells the whole three-variant family at once — black, Core, Design Lab — as cereal flavours under one brand idea.
What you can take
To widen a premium product's audience, borrow a package everyone was once desperate to collect: cereal boxes turn an intimidating accessory into nostalgic, collectible fun.
Since then
The material records the March 2023 rollout across the hero spot and influencer channels. No later performance data appears in the source.
