WSL Football, which runs the top two tiers of women's professional football in England, wanted a social-first campaign to introduce the Barclays Women's Super League and WSL 2 to new audiences and communities online, and increase visibility for the leagues and their clubs.

Football brilliance 'intercepts' a creator's niche world mid-video, putting players in online subcultures instead of waiting for fans to come to the league.

Anomaly developed it and Sata Studios produced 14 films in three treatments. In Live Collabs, creators and footballers collaborate in real time. In Edit Collabs, creators film within their own spaces and the content is stitched with player footage. In Makers, artists document themselves mid-creation and are 'intercepted' by the BWSL, transforming their work with a football twist. Creators include Bimini, Abbie Franks, The History Magpie and GIRLI; players include Alexia Putellas, Georgia Stanway and Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw.

LBBOnline's report of 23 September 2026 gives no results. More creators and batches of content were planned over the following weeks.

To mark the 2026/27 Barclays Women's Super League and Women's Super League 2 season, WSL Football launched 'Interception', a social-first campaign aimed at audiences who do not already follow women's football.

Developed by WSL Football's creative agency Anomaly and produced by Sata Studios, it has players from both leagues interrupt creators from social subcultures of every kind, creating unexpected moments where football meets online culture. The 14 films use three treatments: live collaborations, edits that stitch player footage into a creator's own space, and 'Makers', in which artists are interrupted mid-creation by the league.

The campaign was made in partnership with creators who have built trusted communities around their own passions, including Bimini, Abbie Franks, The History Magpie and GIRLI. It is intended to show that women's football has a place in every interest and corner of culture online, with further batches of content to follow.

Meeting audiences inside their own niche formats makes football an interruption they might welcome rather than an ad.

Trusted creators transfer credibility to the players and the league.

Three treatments, live, edited and maker-led, give the series variety across subcultures.

Releasing batches over weeks keeps the campaign alive across the early season.

To win new fans, go to the communities they already belong to and borrow trusted creators' formats, instead of asking people to come to the sport.

LBBOnline said more creator names would be revealed as extra batches of content were released over the coming weeks.
