Launch BT TV's 2020/21 football offer and show its flexibility in an uncertain year: change sport packages every month, and watch every televised game in one place.

An ad that imagined football allowing unlimited substitutions — Rashford, Bale and Ancelotti in chaos — to dramatise packages fans could swap monthly.

TV spot launched during the FA Community Shield on 29 August, directed by Riff Raff's Rich Hall, with appearances from Marcus Rashford, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gareth Bale, Carlo Ancelotti and a cameo from Rebekah and Jamie Vardy; backed by online video, outdoor, print, radio and social, with media by Essence and PR by Pitch Marketing Group.

Premier League coverage kicked off live on BT TV on 12 September 2020; no campaign performance figures were reported.

On 1 September 2020 BT launched its 2020/21 football season campaign, 'Unlimited Substitutions', created by its agency Saatchi & Saatchi. The product story was genuine aggregation: BT TV was the only place fans could switch seamlessly between BT Sport, Sky Sports via Now TV and Amazon Prime Video — meaning all 220 televised Premier League games in one place — and from that season, customers could change their sport packages every month.

The ad literalised the benefit as football farce: an alternative reality in which teams are permitted unlimited substitutions, and chaos follows. Marcus Rashford, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gareth Bale, Carlo Ancelotti and a surprise cameo from Rebekah Vardy alongside husband Jamie played along as news of the rule change spreads through the game. Dave Stratton, BT's brand and demand generation director, called monthly switching 'the ultimate in flexible TV' in increasingly uncertain times.

The campaign launched on TV during Saturday 29 August's FA Community Shield, supported by online video, outdoor, print, radio and social media, with the film directed by Riff Raff's Rich Hall, media planning and buying by Essence, and PR by Pitch Marketing Group.

The aggregation claim was concrete and exclusive — every televised Premier League game available through one interface.

Monthly package switching was a genuine rule change for TV buying, so a rule-change metaphor in the sport itself demos it instantly.

Star power across clubs and leagues (Rashford, Bale, Ancelotti) made an infrastructure message feel like transfer-window news.

Launching during the Community Shield put the campaign in front of football fans exactly when packages were being decided.

When your product's benefit is a rule change, change the sport's rules in the ad: the metaphor demos the offer without a feature list.

The campaign ran from late August 2020 across TV, online video, outdoor, print, radio and social, leading into the Premier League's live return on BT TV on 12 September 2020. No audience or sales results were reported in the coverage.
