TinyOcean brands regenerative fish farming as one continuous water ripple

Rise branded land-based fish-farm startup TinyOcean with one water ripple — growth from larva to fish — winning Red Dot Best of the Best 2025.

TinyOcean

The ideaBrand the whole company as one water ripple that traces growth from larva to fish, turning complex regenerative aquaculture into a simple emotional mark of renewal.substantial

What it had to solve

TinyOcean is a Dutch startup pioneering regenerative, circular aquaculture: land-based fish farming designed to restore marine ecosystems rather than deplete them. The founders' mission was full of science but hard to grasp, and the aquaculture sector's cold, industrial look did not fit a story about renewal.

How it works

TinyOcean is a Dutch startup pioneering regenerative, circular aquaculture — land-based fish farming built to restore marine ecosystems instead of depleting them. The founders' vision was backed by serious science, but it stayed hard to grasp, and the sector's cold, industrial look fitted an innovation about renewal badly.

Rise, an Amsterdam creative-impact agency, made the company's mission the brand's foundation. The core idea was a single water ripple — a visual metaphor tracing growth from larva to fish and echoing the ocean's rhythm — applied across the whole identity with flowing forms and wave motifs instead of industrial clichés.

Copy was stripped of jargon without diluting the science, a clean typeface gained subtle ebb-and-flow motion, and everything carried through identity, packaging, the website and a brand film. Rise describes the click for the founders as TinyOcean ceasing to be a group of people with an idea and becoming a credible brand able to explore new avenues.

Why it lands

  • One ripple carried the entire story — growth from larva to fish — so complex science became an image anyone could read.
  • Avoiding the sector's cold, industrial look made a genuinely different model feel genuinely different, not just technically superior.
  • Aiming the identity at investors and policymakers as well as consumers made the design do commercial work, not just decorative work.

What it did

The brand made TinyOcean feel credible rather than like a group of people with an idea, opening new conversations with investors and policymakers. In November 2025 the work won Red Dot Best of the Best in Brand Design & Identity plus a Red Dot Award for Corporate Design & Identity — the only Best of the Best won by a Dutch agency that year.

What you can take

Science-heavy ventures are won on translation: give complex technology one simple emotional metaphor, and the brand carries the explanation where jargon loses the audience.

Since then

The identity earned TinyOcean a Red Dot Award for Corporate Design & Identity and the Red Dot: Best of the Best 2025 in Brand Design & Identity, announced at the Red Dot Gala in Berlin on 7 November 2025 — the only Best of the Best won by a Dutch agency that year. In Red Dot's interview with Rise, the designers describe TinyOcean as suddenly able to explore avenues it could not reach before the brand existed.
