KFC Canada puts 'Kyle F*cking Connor' on its buckets for the Jets' Whiteout

For Winnipeg's playoff Whiteout, KFC Canada printed 10,000 KFConnor buckets and won three Grand Clios for the joke.

The ideaMake the fan nickname literal: white KFConnor buckets to wear, a store renamed 'Kyle F*cking Connor', the brand as Jets pride.substantial

What it had to solve

KFC Canada is a proud partner of the Winnipeg Jets, whose playoff tradition, the Whiteout, turns every home game into a celebration. Fans had long nicknamed left-winger Kyle Connor 'KFC', short for 'Kyle F*cking Connor', and Toronto agency Courage saw a sponsorship hiding in plain sight: the chain could stop being a sponsor and become part of the ritual.

How it works

Kyle Connor has spent years being called 'KFC' in Winnipeg — short, fans will tell you, for 'Kyle F*cking Connor'. The city's NHL team, the Winnipeg Jets, is sponsored by KFC Canada, and every playoff run brings the Whiteout, when the arena and the streets dress in white and the team's partner brands fight for a piece of the ritual.

In May 2025, agency Courage made the initials the campaign. KFC printed roughly 10,000 white KFConnor buckets with the player's face replacing the Colonel's and handed them to fans at Game 2 at Canada Life Centre. The Colonel's signs outside the restaurant at 1275 Portage Avenue were swapped for the KFConnor design, the store itself was renamed 'Kyle F*cking Connor', the Colonel appeared rinkside in white, and the takeover ran across the chain's social channels.

The stunt made KFC a symbol of Jets pride rather than a sponsor on the periphery. By December 2025 the campaign had collected three Grand Clio Sports awards — Creative Effectiveness, Experience/Activation and Fan Engagement — with Courage named Agency of the Year and KFC Canada Brand of the Year.

Why it lands

  • The nickname was already the fans' own joke, so the brand only had to make it official.
  • The Whiteout gave the idea a deadline and a ritual moment when everyone in the city was watching.
  • Replacing the Colonel, rather than adding a player beside him, made the risk feel real enough to be funny.
  • Handing 10,000 buckets to actual fans turned the crowd itself into the campaign's media.

What it did

The buckets became a badge of Jets pride, and the stunt turned KFC into the story of the Whiteout. At the Clio Sports ceremony in December 2025, 'Kyle F*cking Connor' won three Grand Clios, for Creative Effectiveness, Experience/Activation and Fan Engagement; Courage was named Agency of the Year and KFC Canada Brand of the Year.

What you can take

A nickname fans already use is an asset, not a joke to be managed: own it sincerely at the one ritual moment when the whole city is watching, and the brand becomes the badge.

Since then

The partnership outgrew one playoff run. The following April, KFC Canada extended it into a limited-time Kyle F Connor Meal backed by a hero film, 'Tunnel Walk', in which Connor wears the Colonel's white suit and bolo tie — an expansion Courage described as going bigger on the truth fans had already embraced. For the agency, the three Grand Clios made the work a calling card, and KFC Canada's own summary of the activation was simple: it stopped being just about chicken and became a symbol of Jets pride.
