Heinz shows every fry box is shaped like its Keystone logo — Cannes Print GP 2026

Rethink turns the fry box's uncanny resemblance to Heinz's Keystone logo into a wordless global campaign — the Print & Publishing Grand Prix at Cannes 2026.

Heinz Ketchup (Kraft Heinz)

The ideaSkip the price war — reveal that every fry box on earth is already shaped like the Heinz logo, turning the category's most common object into brand media.substantial

What it had to solve

With food inflation pushing shoppers toward cheaper ketchup, Heinz faced a price war it could not win on price. But fries are among the most-ordered menu items on the planet, and Heinz noticed that the universal fry box already mirrors its 150-year-old Keystone logo — a truth only Heinz could own.

How it works

Facing cheaper rivals and shrinking shopping baskets during food inflation, Heinz chose not to fight on price. Rethink Toronto instead noticed a hidden truth: the humble fry box — one of the world's most ubiquitous objects — is shaped almost exactly like the Heinz Keystone logo, the brand mark Heinz has used for 150 years.

The campaign 'Look Familiar?' was built around that single image: a fry box, no words, no logo needed. Posters ran in China, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, the UAE, the USA and the UK, placed where on-the-go fry cravings peak — including the Shanghai metro station nearest McDonald's China's own office. The observation reached 42% of the UAE and 33% of Toronto.

To close the gap between noticing and buying, Heinz built a first-of-its-kind Uber Eats integration that added Heinz Ketchup to fry orders even where restaurants did not stock it; in the US, in-platform sales rose 222%. The campaign won the Print & Publishing Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2026, landed in 33 markets, and lifted distribution, penetration and volume share in multiple countries.

Why it lands

  • It uses a truth only the brand can own: the fry box's shape is a visual argument that fries and Heinz belong together.
  • The idea needs no words, so one image travels untranslated across 33 markets.
  • It turns the category's most common object into free brand media at the exact moment of consumption.
  • The Uber Eats hook converts the insight into measurable commerce rather than awareness alone.

What it did

The campaign won the Print & Publishing Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2026 plus a Gold Outdoor Lion, and became Heinz's largest global campaign across 33 markets. In the US, in-platform sales surged 222% and points of distribution rose 9.78%; Canada household penetration climbed 3.38% to 10.31%, with $18.5M gross sales value.

Claim creative ownership of your category's iconography: find the shape or object that already belongs to it, show it is yours, and every consumer touchpoint starts doing the advertising.

Since then

Beyond the Cannes Print Grand Prix, it took a Gold Outdoor Lion and anchored Heinz's 'It Has to Be Heinz' platform with measurable gains: US distribution up 9.78%, Canada household penetration up 3.38% to 10.31% with $18.5M in gross sales value, UK volume share up 4.37% and Mexico up 3.58%.
