What it had to solve
The Summer Carnival sale covered everything from sofas to beds at discounted prices, and the film had to make a discount event entertaining enough to share.
The idea
The kids aren't wrecking the house by accident — dad told them to trash the furniture, so buying new ones from the sale is finally justified.
How it works
A 20-second film by SoCheers Films: a couple returns home to find the children making a mess, the mother panics — then the twist reveals the father asked for it. It ran on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, primarily in Hindi, dubbed into Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam.
What it did
No results reported. The stated objectives were expanding the brand's audience base and boosting product sales.
Background
In May 2023, furniture brand Godrej Interio (part of Godrej & Boyce) launched its Summer Carnival with a digital film conceptualised and executed by independent agency SoCheers. The brief: convey that the sale is so good any excuse to buy new furniture is justified.
The 20-second film opens with a couple returning home to find the children making a mess, the situation seemingly out of control and the mother in a panic. Then the turn: the father had asked the children to destroy the furniture, so he could replace it with new pieces from the Summer Carnival Sale.
Dev Sarkar, senior vice-president (B2C), Godrej Interio, said the goal was to highlight the range — sofas to beds, all discounted — while keeping the audience engaged. SoCheers Films director Jitendra Hirawat called the scenario 'clever and relatable', giving viewers a sneak peek of the products.
Why it lands
The twist literalises every discount shopper's excuse-making: destroy first, replace second.
Distribution matched a national sale — five regional dubs plus platform-native placement on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
The brand message survives the joke: range and discount both fit inside 20 seconds.
What you can take
A sale ad earns its twist by dramatising the customer's real internal monologue — 'I need any excuse to buy new furniture' — then making it literal.
Since then
The film went live on a Tuesday in May 2023 across digital platforms as the carnival rolled out nationally. No sales figures were reported.
