Fuck Cancer's 'Beat Cancer Off' sings prostate advice in slang — two Cannes Golds
Fuck Cancer turned the science of ejaculation frequency and prostate risk into a slang anthem urging men to 'beat cancer off' — two Gold Lions at Cannes 2026.

What it had to solve
Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in men, yet the nonprofit Fuck Cancer found that traditional awareness campaigns — clinical, fearful, earnest — were not landing. Men avoided the subject entirely. In April 2026 Fuck Cancer and VML Health launched 'Beat Cancer Off', a campaign built on a finding most men would rather not discuss: men who ejaculate 21 or more times a month appear to lower their prostate cancer risk.
How it works
Fuck Cancer, the nonprofit founded by Yael Cohen, set out to fix a stubborn gap in men's health: prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in men, yet most men avoided the topic entirely, and conventional awareness campaigns that felt clinical or frightening failed to cut through.
VML Health's answer was to embrace the very thing that made men uncomfortable. Research cited by the organization — the Health Professionals Follow-up Study of 31,925 men over 18 years, and a 2025 meta-analysis of 29 studies covering more than 315,000 participants — links higher ejaculation frequency with lower prostate cancer risk, up to 22% for men reporting 21 or more times a month. The campaign turned that finding into an animated music film: a Sinatra-style crooner singing global euphemisms for masturbation as the lyrics of a catchy anthem called 'Beat Cancer Off'.
Launched on April 14, 2026, the work extended beyond the film into a microsite, a tracking app, out-of-home, social media, tissue boxes sent to influencers and a '21 Sock Pack' retail partnership with Pair of Thieves. Harvard epidemiologist Dr Lorelei Mucci, co-author of the underlying research, backed the science and encouraged men to use the campaign as a starting point for talking with their doctors.
The campaign won Gold Lions in both Entertainment for Music and Health & Wellness at Cannes 2026, plus two Silvers in Film Craft and Bronzes in Audio & Radio and Health & Wellness — proof that a health message built on men's own humour could travel further than another solemn warning.
Why it lands
- It took a scientific finding men would not hear in a clinic and put it into a song they would hum, so the message travelled by sharing, not by broadcasting.
- Global euphemisms made the film feel like it was written by the audience itself, not by a health authority talking down to them.
- The pun — 'beat cancer off' — fused the behaviour with the benefit, making the joke the call to action.
- Real peer-reviewed research and a named Harvard epidemiologist kept the humour honest, so credibility was never traded for laughs.
- The app, sock pack and tissue boxes turned a one-off film into a behaviour men could track and a conversation they could start.
What it did
The campaign drew on the Health Professionals Follow-up Study — 31,925 men followed for 18 years — which linked ejaculating 21 or more times a month to a 19–22% lower risk of prostate cancer, plus a 2025 meta-analysis of 29 studies and more than 315,000 participants showing an average 17% risk reduction. At Cannes Lions 2026 it won Gold in both Entertainment for Music and Health & Wellness, two Silvers in Film Craft, and Bronzes in Audio & Radio and Health & Wellness — the message reaching men because it met them in their own language.
What you can take
When a subject is one people refuse to discuss, deliver the science in the language they already use — their own jokes made prostate health a conversation men started, not one they avoided.
Since then
The campaign continued to collect honors through 2026 — its two Cannes Gold Lions were joined by Silvers in Film Craft and Bronzes in Audio & Radio and Health & Wellness, and recognition at the New York Festivals — while its products kept the conversation alive after the launch window. For Fuck Cancer, the win validated a model of translating credible science into culture rather than fear: the organization framed the work as arming men with knowledge and a tangible action, then pointing them to their doctors for screening.
