What it had to solve

When Oasis announced their Live '25 reunion, brands like Berghaus, Burberry, Levi's and Asda rushed to ride the wave. adidas didn't need a sponsorship invented for the moment: the Gallaghers had worn the three stripes for three decades, so the association was already real. The task was to own the moment rather than rent it.

How it works

When Oasis announced their Live '25 reunion, nearly every brand in Britain tried to claim a slice — Berghaus, Burberry, Barbour, Asda, Kappa, Levi's and more. adidas Originals and agency Johannes Leonardo took a different route: instead of another logo-on-a-photo sponsorship, the sportswear brand became the band's official tour merchandise partner, launching a 26-piece collection and a three-minute film under the name 'Original Forever'.

The film, which premiered on Channel 4 on June 19, 2025, is soundtracked by 'Live Forever' and layers four performances of the song — the 1994 demo, Maine Road 1996, Old Trafford 2018 and the Crouch End Festival Chorus's 2025 rendition — as a crowd-surfer travels through three decades of Oasis history. It ends with Liam and Noel Gallagher on screen together, their first on-screen reunion in years.

The collection — Firebird tracksuits, football jerseys, bucket hats and Gazelles — sold in pop-up stores at stadium gates, on adidas.co.uk and oasisinet.com, and the film played at all 41 tour dates as the warm-up act, with crowds singing along before the band took the stage. Live '25 was the first time adidas had made official tour merch with an artist.

Results: one item sold per second at peak, 100% sell-through and 400,000+ units in the UK, 33% of buyers new to adidas (28% of those Gen-Z), women's apparel up 85% year on year, and 1.3 billion PR impressions. At Cannes Lions 2026 the campaign won a rare double Grand Prix — Entertainment and Entertainment for Music.

Why it lands

  • Instead of renting a sponsorship moment, adidas became the tour's business partner, so every sale was a brand action.
  • The merch turned fans into billboards — the uniform of the moment traveled on bodies, not just in media.
  • The multi-era 'Live Forever' arrangement made the brand part of the band's emotional history, not an intruder.
  • Scarcity and stadium presence created fandom behavior — queues, sell-outs and singalongs — not just impressions.

What it did

One item sold per second at peak; UK stock hit 100% sell-through with 400,000+ units sold, 33% of buyers new to adidas, women's apparel +85% year on year, and 1.3 billion PR impressions. Cannes Lions 2026 gave it a rare double Grand Prix — Entertainment and Entertainment for Music.

What you can take

When a brand shares real DNA with a cultural moment, own it as a business partner — merch, film, stadium presence — rather than renting attention with a sponsorship logo.

Since then

Original Forever became a reference point for music-brand collaborations, and its double Grand Prix at Cannes 2026 placed it among the festival's most awarded campaigns of the year. The One Show 2026 carried it as a case study, and trade coverage cited the 400,000+ UK units and 1.3 billion impressions as proof that cultural ownership beats media buying. The halo reached the core business: search interest in the Gazelle and Samba models rose sharply during the tour window.
