要解决的问题
Programming languages are built on English keywords and grammar, so Korean speakers must learn a foreign sentence structure before they can write a single line of code.
The idea
Code as ordinary Korean sentences — 'the button's content is Viewing Application; pressing it runs Viewing Application' — readable by anyone who reads Korean.
如何实现
Hunminjeongeum preserves Korean sentence structure in its syntax, and the companion Hunminjeongeum IDE previews the app screen while you write. It builds iPhone and Android apps, PC programs and servers — and its own compiler and IDE are written in Hunminjeongeum, with verification data published so anyone can compare a from-scratch rebuild of the compiler.
产生的效果
Semtle's own travel Q&A app Hyunmunhyeondap launched on it in September 2026, its user-facing app and server code both written in Hunminjeongeum; the language, IDE and manual are downloadable from Semtle, making 'code in Korean' testable today rather than a concept. No third-party adoption figures exist yet.
背景
On Hangeul Day 2026 — the Korean alphabet's 100th anniversary — software startup Semtle released Hunminjeongeum, a programming language in which code is written as ordinary Korean sentences, together with a dedicated development tool, Hunminjeongeum IDE. The founding premise: mainstream languages force Korean speakers to think in English grammar before they can build anything. In Hunminjeongeum, a line of code reads like 'the button's content is Viewing Application; pressing it runs Viewing Application'.
Founder Oh Hyun-woo started the project in 2022 as a high school student who wanted to program in the language he speaks and writes; the first version shipped as an app on the App Store and Google Play. Development stalled while he focused on other projects, then resumed as AI began changing how software gets written. The 2026 release can build iPhone and Android apps, PC programs and servers; the IDE shows a live app preview as you type; and the compiler that turns code into executables, plus the IDE itself, are written in Hunminjeongeum.
The proof is a real product: Hyunmunhyeondap, an iPhone app where travelers' questions about a destination are answered by people standing there, launched in September 2026 with both its user app and its server code written in Hunminjeongeum. Semtle also released verification data comparing its compiler's output against a from-scratch rebuild. Whether a Korean-syntax language can sustain a real developer ecosystem — tool compatibility, maintenance — remains the open question the founder says he will answer with daily-use products, not sentiment.
为什么有效
It executes the alphabet's founding promise — 'so that everyone may learn it easily and use it comfortably every day' — as an engineering spec rather than a slogan.
Bootstrapped proof: the compiler and IDE written in the language itself, with published verification data, instead of a canned demo.
Shipped end to end: a real app and its server run on it, so the claim 'code in Korean sentences' is testable today.
It positions a national script for the AI era of natural-language programming, built by a student-scale startup rather than a platform giant.
可以借鉴什么
Making the syntax mirror how people already speak removes the first wall to programming; naming the product after the script's founding text sets a public bar the product then has to meet.

Semtle grew out of a school developer club and incorporated in May 2026. Its track record: top prize in the adult division of the science ministry's 2024 metaverse developer contest for the spatial computing project Semtle Space, and Oh named an Apple Swift Student Challenge Distinguished Winner in 2025. In September 2026 it also released the AI work tool Semtle Madi, with Madi Code — which works directly on PC folders — announced next.
