要解决的问题
In March 2022 cryptocurrency and NFTs filled every social and news feed, while Delta Vacations — a Delta Air Lines company — wanted to accelerate the rebound of leisure travel. With agency Partners + Napier it chose to lean into the buzzword on its own terms: giving people something real to look forward to rather than another intangible token.
The idea
Poke fun at NFTs' intangibility by redefining the acronym as Nice Free Trips and giving away real vacations for free
如何实现
A free five-day sweepstakes ran 18-22 March 2022 via Instagram and a landing page, promoted with video and a series of cheeky posts poking fun at the intangibility of NFTs. Five winners each received a trip for two — airfare, a four-night stay and a curated activity — to Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta or Los Cabos in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, or Nassau in the Bahamas.
产生的效果
No entry or sales numbers were disclosed. The program put Delta Vacations inside the crypto conversation while minting nothing, aiming to convert buzz about intangible tokens into demand for tangible trips.
背景
In March 2022 you could not check social or news feeds, as Partners + Napier chief creative Rob Kottkamp put it, without reading about cryptocurrency and NFTs. Delta Vacations, the Delta Air Lines holiday brand, wanted a piece of that attention for a different purpose: getting people back out into the world as leisure travel recovered.
The answer was to redefine the acronym. Five NFTs — Nice. Free. Trips. — were given away through a free social media sweepstakes created with Partners + Napier, running five days from 18 March 2022. Each trip covered airfare, a four-night stay and a curated experience for winner and guest, to Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Punta Cana or Nassau.
The campaign leaned into the joke with video and cheeky posts about the intangibility of NFTs. VP Brian Canning framed it plainly: in a world craving fewer screens and more experiences, there is no substitute for having a vacation to look forward to.
为什么有效
Hijacking the acronym let a leisure brand ride the biggest marketing buzz of the moment without pretending to understand or sell crypto.
The prize was the anti-NFT: a physical trip you can touch, contrasting sharply with the intangible tokens being mocked.
Free entry and a five-day window created urgency and shareability on social, where the campaign lived.
可以借鉴什么
When a buzzword saturates culture, subverting it beats adopting it: a brand can join the conversation by giving the hype an honest, tangible meaning of its own.
