要解决的问题
The Come Clean Coalition, a group of non-profit and for-profit organisations raising awareness of nuclear energy's environmental and human benefits, wanted the message carried through rituals people already practise: skincare.
The idea
A luxury pop-up spa where facials are steamed with ultra-pure vapor made from nuclear power plant cooling water — clean energy you can feel on your skin.
如何实现
At 'Skin's Best Hope', a pop-up spa debuting at Houston's MakeUp Show in late September 2025, aesthetician Asia Kai ('The Skincare Boss') gave nuclear facials whose steam was water vapor from ultra-pure nuclear plant cooling water — as safe and emissions-free as the vapor from cooling towers — designed to hydrate, detox and refresh pollution-stressed skin. Built by Droga5 with Accenture Song Sustainability and Lime Media.
产生的效果
No numbers were reported; the argument landed in attendees' own words. Influencer Ore Otu: 'Pollution is making us wrinkly! I had never thought about this.' Attendee Diem Ho: 'I didn't know nuclear energy was clean until today. I'm going to tell my friends about this.'
背景
In late September 2025, at the MakeUp Show — a major beauty trade event in Houston, Texas — a surprising new skincare regimen debuted: nuclear facials. The offering, unveiled at 'Skin's Best Hope', a luxury pop-up spa from nuclear energy advocacy group Come Clean and creative agency Droga5 (part of Accenture Song), framed clean nuclear energy as the latest essential in beauty and skincare.
The mechanics made the metaphor physical: the facials replaced the typical water used for steam with water vapour made from ultra-pure nuclear power plant cooling water — as safe and emissions-free, the copy argued, as the zero-pollution vapour rising from nuclear cooling towers every day. The treatments promised to hydrate, detox and refresh skin exposed to environmental stressors that promote premature ageing, dark spots, inflammation and increased cancer risk.
Droga5 Worldwide CCO Pelle Sjoenell: 'Nuclear facials, as absurd as they might sound now, help people connect the dots between their skin health and clean nuclear energy... translate something that might be abstract and unknown to people into something personal, approachable and luxurious.' Attendees did the rest: influencer Ore Otu realised 'pollution is making us wrinkly', and attendee Diem Ho said she 'didn't know nuclear energy was clean until today'.
为什么有效
The medium is the message: a facial literally steams you with the byproduct the campaign praises — proof by experience rather than assertion.
Beauty is a routine category, so the pro-nuclear argument piggybacks on something people already do instead of asking for attention.
The absurdity is the hook: 'nuclear facials' is a phrase that demands explanation, and the explanation is the advocacy.
Environmental stressors on skin give the energy argument a personal, visible stake — dirty air becomes dirty skin.

To sell an abstract public good, route it through a private ritual: the claim stops being about the grid and becomes about your pores.
