Pain-relief advertising runs on near-identical claims; Advil Liquid Capsules needed its speed story to stick with both consumers and trade buyers.

Turn the absorption claim into a 360° VR ride where you smash through pain crystals in a world built from liquid.

A CG TVC plus a 360° VR version built by Cutting Edge — over 3,500 frames of liquid, mountains of two million fully reflective blocks and crystal simulations in 4K — handed to the Advil sales team as a shopper-journey demo.

No results are reported. The experience was described by Pfizer's brand manager as a first for the company and became the sales team's demo at the point of purchase.

In March 2016, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare Australia launched a campaign for Advil Liquid Capsules built on one claim: the medicine is absorbed two times faster than standard pain-relief brands such as Nurofen. Matterhorn Sydney paired a new TVC with a 360-degree virtual reality experience, and brand manager Jalene Tiu called the VR piece a first for Pfizer.

The TVC drops viewers into a high-tech, futuristic world — co-founder Matt Kemsley says the brief gave permission to skip clichéd lifestyle moments — while the VR version makes the viewer the rider, racing through a fully CG environment and smashing through pain 'crystals' as it builds around them. Cutting Edge VFX supervisor Simon Maddison describes a virtual environment of over 3,500 frames of liquid, moving mountains made up of two million fully reflective blocks and crystal simulations in 4K, noting that in VR there is nowhere to hide behind camera angles.

Co-founder Garry Horner framed the VR experience as a sales weapon rather than a consumer play: it gives the Advil sales team a tool to keep the brand front of mind with customers and pharmacists 'at the most crucial part of the shopper's journey… when they've got their wallets in their hands' in grocery and pharmacy.

The claim becomes the world: liquid, speed and crystals to smash map the absorption story onto a place you can visit.

The VR piece is aimed at the shelf, not the living room — a demo for the moment a shopper or pharmacist decides.

It was a first for Pfizer, giving the sales team a reason to get face time in stores.

One production pipeline served both outputs; per Maddison, the TVC 'lent itself perfectly to virtual reality'.

A product's physical mechanism is the richest brief you can get: when the selling point is how fast liquid absorbs, let people fly through the liquid.

Launched March 2016 alongside the TVC; the source reports no distribution or sales figures.
