What it had to solve
Capri Global had acquired the UP team for the first Women's Premier League and wanted the squad to identify with the people of Uttar Pradesh and India.
The idea
Brand the UP franchise on the state's warrior heritage — a logo paying tribute to Jhansi Ki Rani — capped by the original anthem #UPWarriorzUttarDega.
How it works
Logo, jerseys and bus design referencing Jhansi Ki Rani, plus an original anthem track and a launch film shot in three cities across Uttar Pradesh.
What it did
No metrics; the franchise reported fans engaging positively with the anthem ahead of the first WPL season.
Background
When the Women's Premier League launched its first season in 2023, franchise UP Warriorz turned to Wondrlab for a brand identity and communication system. The answer rooted the team in the warrior heritage of Uttar Pradesh: a logo conceived as a rich tribute to the region's 'true blue warrior' Jhansi Ki Rani, carried through jerseys and bus design.
The identity launched alongside an original anthem, #UPWarriorzUttarDega — a tribute to the side's ability to fight back in any situation — with a film celebrating how WPL cricket fever spread across the state, shot in three different cities of Uttar Pradesh for authenticity. Capri Global principal Jinisha Sharma said the identity was considered key from the moment the team was acquired, and reported fans engaging positively with the anthem.
Why it lands
A first-season franchise had no history to lean on, so it borrowed the region's most storied fighter instead.
Grounding the logo in Jhansi Ki Rani gave the team a story every UP cricket fan already owns.
Shooting the anthem film in three UP cities made the identity feel local rather than league-supplied.
What you can take
A new franchise earns a region's loyalty by wearing its own hero — not by borrowing a league's glamour
Since then
The identity, anthem and film carried UP Warriorz into the inaugural WPL season; BestMediaInfo covered the launch with full credits for Wondrlab, including co-founder and CCO Amit Akali.
