Make Spire front-of-mind for people aged 35+ who are open to private healthcare, positioned as 'The sooner you're better, the better' — the fast-track back to the life illness interrupts.

As a patient gets good news, the consultation room dissolves into a sunlit cliff he leaps from to rejoin his family in the sea — recovery shown as a physical release.

A 30-second TV spot, 'Leap', directed by Chris Hewitt at Knucklehead with CGI-enabled magic realism, filmed in a working Spire hospital and on location in the Peak District and Greece, running across TV, print, social, digital display, web and door drops, with media by Smithfield. A second spot, 'Hike', was set for early 2024.

Spire's first major multichannel brand awareness platform across its 39 hospitals and eight clinics; the follow-up film 'Hike' was already commissioned for early 2024. No performance figures were given in the write-up.

In September 2023, independent hospital provider Spire Healthcare launched 'The sooner you're better, the better', a major multichannel brand awareness campaign created with M&C Saatchi London. It aimed to make Spire front-of-mind for people aged 35 and over who are open to private healthcare, positioning the group as the 'fast-track health service' that returns people to their lives, loved ones and the things they love, sooner.

The centrepiece, 'Leap', is a 30-second TV spot directed by Chris Hewitt at Knucklehead using CGI-enabled magic realism. It opens in a Spire hospital: as a patient receives positive news about his treatment, the consultation room around him begins to transform, and he finds himself bathed in sunlight on a cliff. He leaps to join his wife and children playing in the sea below, looking forward to getting back to what he loves.

Filming took place in a Spire hospital and on location in the Peak District and Greece, with print, social and digital display showing patients back with family and friends, in nature or on holiday. Spire's Nicholas Godsall tied the timing to NHS pressures — 'restricted access to elective healthcare services and longer waiting times than usual' — while M&C Saatchi ECD Matt Lee said the film shows 'how the world class treatment at Spire can quickly get you back on the road to recovery'.

Waiting lists were the trigger, so the campaign sells the one thing the NHS could not promise: speed back to normal life.

Magic realism makes an abstract benefit — sooner — visible as one continuous transformation from ward to cliff top.

A brand platform, not a service ad, was the point: 39 hospitals needed a single memorable promise to unify them.

In healthcare marketing the real product is time: dramatise recovery as a physical release — walls dissolving into a leap — instead of listing treatments.

As of the September 2023 write-up the campaign was live across TV, print, social, digital display, web and door drops, with a second spot, 'Hike', planned for early 2024.
