What it had to solve
The SolarCell Remote charges on light, doing away with disposable batteries — a small accessory benefit that needed an online film of its own rather than a line in a TV launch spec sheet.
The idea
A battery-powered toy monkey breaks free of the AA cells that ran him and journeys to clean up the environment with the light-charging remote on his back
How it works
Shot in London through Blinkink Animation Studio, directed by Adeena Grubb with stop-frame animator Andy Biddle; the BBH Singapore creative team was Audrey Chia and Grace Wong. The film was released on YouTube in August 2021.
What it did
No viewership results are reported; the work carried the remote's battery-free promise as a character story instead of a feature demo.
Background
Samsung's SolarCell Remote is a TV remote that charges on light, doing away with AA batteries. To promote it online, Samsung Visual Display turned to BBH Singapore.
The film they made shows a battery-powered toy monkey who frees himself from his AA batteries and goes on a journey to clean up the environment with the SolarCell Remote strapped to his back.
It was shot in London by Blinkink Animation Studio, directed by Adeena Grubb with stop-frame animator Andy Biddle, with Audrey Chia and Grace Wong as the BBH creative team, and released on YouTube in August 2021.
Why it lands
It sells an absence — no batteries — by dramatizing the thing the batteries used to control.
Stop-frame craft gives a disposable toy more charm than a product render would.
A small accessory gets its own narrative instead of riding along inside a TV launch spot.
What you can take
When the benefit is an absence — no batteries — give the thing being removed a character: the freed monkey makes 'no AA cells' feel like liberation, not a spec.
Since then
The film lives on YouTube; no performance figures are reported in the coverage.
