What it had to solve
The Times needed a platform broad enough for its bundle, not just its newsroom, while still feeling like a serious journalism brand.
The idea
Start with one ordinary minute, then show how NYT products help a person play, cook, read, listen, move and make sense of the world.
How it works
The hero film used sharp editing, narration and archival-style fragments across social, digital and OOH to connect News, Games, Cooking, sports and audio to daily life.
What it did
Creative Review described the work as a campaign rolling out across social media, digital and OOH; Webby recognized it in 2026 for video editing.
Background
The New York Times had become more than daily news, but a list of products is not a brand idea. Its 2025 platform, It's Your World to Understand, tried to make News, Games, Cooking, sports, audio and lifestyle feel like one daily relationship.
The campaign began small. Muse by Clios reported that the film opens by calling attention to 'your minute' and then follows people using the Times through play, recipes, sports, exploration and everyday discovery.
Creative Review described a one-minute central spot built from dynamic snatches of video, poetic narration and clips of people skiing, swimming, cooking and reading, with Times news, games, puzzles and audio woven through the sequence.
The work gave the Times a flexible enterprise platform rather than a one-off ad. It rolled out across social media, digital and out-of-home, and The Webby Awards later listed It's Your World to Understand as a 2026 Webby Winner for Best Video Editing.
Why it lands
It solved a bundle-marketing problem through lived moments instead of a feature checklist.
The 'one minute' structure gave a large brand promise a simple frame.
The editing let journalism, games, recipes and audio coexist without feeling like separate ads.
It kept the brand's seriousness while making the product portfolio feel more usable and personal.
What you can take
A bundle story lands better when it starts from the user's day, not the product menu. One minute made many products feel like one habit.
Since then
The line became the Times's enterprise brand platform for 2025, with trade coverage noting its ability to extend across products such as Games and Cooking and Webby recognition following in 2026.
