What it had to solve
Launch Korean BBQ, Ranch and Hot Honey sauces by celebrating the fan behaviours everyone has seen on their feeds, from stockpiling pots to licking the lid, and let fans co-create.
The idea
Five films where the voiceover sells chicken but the cameraman keeps panning back to the sauce — because sauce is the real star of the order.
How it works
Six weeks across social, TV, OOH, radio, CRM and live: five spots with Stephen Graham's voiceover fighting a sauce-obsessed cameraman (directed by Oli Beale), a limited-edition Sweet Curry Suitcase shaped like a sauce pot with creator Luke Hamnett, The Sauce Stop live activation, and OOH that heroes the dips front and centre.
What it did
The article reports no sales figures. Hot Honey rolled out across the McCrispy, Sausage & Egg McMuffins and a Mini McFlurry for the summer as the campaign's limited-time centrepiece.
Background
McDonald's and Leo UK launched 'Here for the Sauce', a six-week UK and Ireland campaign launching alongside three new sauces — Korean BBQ, Ranch and Hot Honey. Its foundation is a fan truth: for many customers the sauce is not the side, it's the main event.
The five TV spots give the insight a craft gag: Stephen Graham's voiceover attempts to keep the focus on the chicken, but the cameraman is a really big fan of sauce. Directed by Oli Beale, the films use pans and focus shifts so the sauces repeatedly steal the spotlight from the food.
Fans were pulled into co-creation: the Sweet Curry Suitcase, a limited-edition suitcase shaped like the iconic sauce pot based on real fans who take McDonald's sauce on holiday, toured by sauce superfan and creator Luke Hamnett, plus The Sauce Stop, a live activation built entirely around sauces.
OOH stripped the idea back to bold, colourful posters that hero the dips in their own right, and radio's 20-second spots recast Stephen Graham as a regular sauce-obsessed superfan. Media was handled by OMD, PR and influencer by Red Consultancy, production by DROOL.
Why it lands
The cameraman device dramatizes the customer's own behaviour, so the ad retells a joke fans already tell.
Co-creation assets like the Sweet Curry Suitcase turn a private habit — pocketing sauce pots — into shareable participation.
One idea stretched across TV, OOH, radio, live and CRM without changing registers, like sauce over McNuggets.
What you can take
When your fans already have a running joke about your product, fund the joke and give them ways to co-write it.
Since then
The source reports no performance figures; the campaign was running across UK and Ireland from 14 July 2026.
