Jane wanted 'light and sleek and futuristic'; Burton wanted to go more sci-fi and anime-adjacent than ever before, working with a set designer and a VFX team.

A retro-futuristic video casting the pop star as lab specimen: Jane performs inside a massive water-filled tube amid Perfect Blue and Mewtwo references.

A set-built tube filled with water for the performance; visual references spanning Pokémon's Mewtwo, Akira, Perfect Blue and Stalker; a deliberately 'prototype' look flags the song as the first piece of the next year's plan.

For 'Beauty Sleep', the first release of her new musical chapter, Jane Remover retained long-time creative partner Brendon Burton for a retro-futuristic music video dripping in sci-fi and anime lore — visual references to Pokémon (Mewtwo was a big reference point, Jane wanted 'light and sleek and futuristic'), Akira, Perfect Blue and Stalker. Burton wanted to do something far more sci-fi and anime-adjacent than in their previous work, so the production built the world physically with a set designer and a VFX team, with Jane performing inside a massive tube filled with water.

The video's 'prototype' feeling is deliberate: the song is the first piece of what Jane has in store for the following year, and its lab-rat, test-subject imagery plays in tandem with the Live Exhibit tour — feeding the feeling of a star being viewed as non-human, in a literal and artistic sense. Jane confessed to being secretly scared of the tube until realizing it was possible to breathe and stand in it; the water was warm, serene, and sucked out all her hair dye.

The song opens Jane Remover's next era, so the video was designed as a deliberate 'prototype', signalling a new visual world before the album exists.

Burton pushed further into sci-fi and anime than in previous collaborations, building the tube set with a set designer and VFX team rather than faking it in post.

The 'lab rat' imagery extends the Live Exhibit tour's theme of a star being viewed as non-human, tying the video to the live show's concept.

A 'prototype' frame can make a first single do double duty: the video's unfinished-lab aesthetic sells both the song and the era that hasn't arrived yet.

The video premiered as an ABC Rage feature on October 8, 2026, kicking off the artist's new chapter ahead of the material teased for the following year.
