What it had to solve
Halo, maker of the new super-premium, science-backed Halo Elevate pet food line, needed brand awareness among millennial 'pet parents' who treat their pets as children.
The idea
A campaign that settles a World's Best Kid contest — patient, loyal pets against yelling, fit-throwing human kids — and hands the win to the ones with fur.
How it works
30-, 15- and 6-second spots, animated display and social ads contrasted obedient pets (loyal shopping buddies, dinner companions, weekend sleep enablers) with mess-making kids. 18 media components plus still photography ran across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, iHeartRadio and Twitter.
What it did
No sales or awareness figures were reported. The campaign launched Halo's positioning and was set to extend to its Holistic line later in summer 2022.
Background
In June 2022, Halo Pets launched 'The World's Best Food for The World's Best Kids', its first integrated campaign, created with agency Humanaut. The premise simply states what 'everyone already knows' — pets are the best kids — so the world's best kids deserve the world's best food: Halo.
The work stages a World's Best Kid contest. Cheerful, obedient pets prove themselves loyal shopping buddies, dinner companions and weekend sleep enablers, while human children yell, throw fits and wreck everything they touch. The winners, clearly, are the ones with fur.
The digital campaign kicked off for the Halo Elevate line and was to extend to the Holistic line later that summer, across 18 media components including video, static and animated display, GIFs, still photography and paid social. 'We felt it was time that a brand recognised the deep love pet parents have for their pets,' said Humanaut founder David Littlejohn. Better Choice Company CEO Scott Lerner framed it as reinforcing 'Pet Mom' love with high-quality nutrition.
Why it lands
The whole idea hangs on one reframe: not 'buy better food' but 'your pet is your best kid' — the ads validate the owner instead of pitching the product.
A challenger pet food launches without celebrities or stunts: one contest premise stretches across 18 media components.
The pet-parent insight is explicit in the campaign itself — pets as companions versus kids who 'wreak havoc on all they touch'.
What you can take
When the product can't win on specs alone, sell the owner's identity: validate how buyers already see themselves — or their pets — and the brand becomes the obvious choice.
Since then
The campaign was Halo's first integrated work with Humanaut, appointed in June 2021 to refine the brand's strategic foundation. The theme was set to extend to Halo's Holistic line ('responsibly sourced ingredients plus probiotics') later in summer 2022. No sales or campaign results were reported in the source.
