Ford relaunches in Europe as the brand for doers — kids racing tyres down dunes say it all
W+K London relaunched Ford across 19 European markets around capability in motion, with 'Born to Compete' showing kids racing tyres down sand dunes.

What it had to solve
Ford had to relaunch its European brand across 19 markets in a crowded, cliché-heavy automotive category. Rather than another lifestyle montage, Wieden+Kennedy London organised the brand around how people actually use Ford vehicles — Thrill, Build and Adventure — under a single idea: capability in motion.
How it works
Ford entered 2026 needing to relaunch its European brand across 19 markets in a category filled with clichéd car advertising. Wieden+Kennedy London's answer was structural: instead of one campaign, a global platform called Ready Set Ford that organises the brand into three domains matching how people actually use Ford vehicles — Thrill, Build and Adventure.
All three sit under one idea, capability in motion, and the opening Thrill chapter proves it with pure cinema. 'Born to Compete' shows four kids racing tyres down desert sand dunes, stripping movement back to gravity and competition. The film is rooted in truth: Ford was born from a race, Henry Ford's 1901 Sweepstakes win, which sparked more than a century of racing DNA.
Directed by Aoife McArdle and shot by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Adolpho Veloso, the film captured real tyre action rather than digital polish, scored to 'Memoria' by Rosalía and Carminho. Its companion chapters, 'Mornings. Made Possible By Doers' for commercial vehicles and 'Made To Take It' for adventure models, share the same mindset of resilience and action with deliberately different tones.
Launched first in the UK and then across Europe from May 2026, the platform spans hero films, product cutdowns, social content and out-of-home. Ford Europe's marketing director described it as more than a communications idea — a system shaping how the company thinks about product and experience, built to drive short-term sales and long-term demand together.
Why it lands
- Organising the brand into Thrill, Build and Adventure let one platform speak credibly to racing fans, van fleets and weekend explorers without diluting the message.
- The tyre-race film proved the idea rather than declaring it, distilling 125 years of racing history into one primal image anyone understands.
- Real captured action and serious craft made the work feel like film rather than car advertising, cutting through a category built on predictable spectacle.
- Because every chapter shares the same mindset, each new product launch can inherit the platform instead of inventing a fresh campaign from zero.
What it did
The relaunch gave Ford one flexible brand system instead of scattered product advertising: one platform, three domains and a consistent tone across every vehicle line, executed in 19 European markets with craft-led films that industry press described as cutting through the category by returning to action rather than cliché.
What you can take
When a brand serves every kind of customer, do not chase one message — build one idea with several expressions so racing, working and exploring say the same thing.
Since then
After the May 2026 launch, Ready Set Ford continued rolling out across Ford Europe's markets with the Build and Adventure chapters, and the platform was extended with further creative waves later in the year. Ads of the World published 'Born to Compete' as a standalone work, and industry press including LBB and Creativebrief covered the relaunch as an example of returning an automotive brand to a simple, ownable idea after years of category clichés.
