What it had to solve
The home-appliances category talks features, upgrades and offers. Flipkart's Big Billion Days exchange offer needed a frame for the emotional hesitancy of replacing a half-working appliance.
The idea
A retirement home for appliances: they spent years taking care of our homes, so they get a happy place to retire — making exchange feel like a thoughtful handover.
How it works
A Big Billion Days film (directed by Anant Sharma for Potli Baba Mediahouse) plus an on-ground activation at North Studio, Mumbai on 3–4 October 2026: a walk-in retirement home with a karaoke zone for noisy appliances, a yoga zone for laptops, and a room where mixers are never asked to lower their voice. BBD buyers got an exchange bonus on top of exchange value.
What it did
No results reported. The campaign extended from film to a two-day walk-in experience in Mumbai during the sale.
Background
For Big Billion Days 2026, Flipkart and agency 22feet (part of Omnicom Advertising India) reimagined the appliance exchange as 'Home for Old Age Appliances' (HOAA) — a fictional retirement home where appliances that spent years serving households can finally take a break. The insight: Indians keep repairing and patching up appliances long after they've stopped working properly, rather than exchanging them.
'People also connect emotionally to their appliances. That's one of the reasons that people are always a little hesitant to upgrade,' said Vishnu Srivatsav, chief creative experience officer at 22feet. 'So we asked ourselves what if your beloved appliance, instead of being discarded, went to a happy place instead. Then came the exaggeration and the jokes pretty much wrote themselves.'
The idea went physical on 3–4 October 2026 at North Studio, Mumbai: a walk-in retirement home designed around appliances' quirks — old machines that make strange noises got a karaoke zone to let loose, laptops found a yoga zone to stay flexible, and mixers got a space where nobody asks them to lower their voice. During Big Billion Days, buyers also received an exchange bonus on top of exchange value.
Why it lands
It dramatises the real blocker to appliance exchange in India — sentimental repair culture — instead of shouting offers.
The jokes build from the premise: karaoke for noisy appliances, yoga for laptops, a soundproof room for mixers.
The film went physical: a two-day walk-in retirement home in Mumbai turned a sale message into a place people visit.
What you can take
Emotional attachment blocks upgrades: give the old product a dignified send-off and the exchange stops feeling like a betrayal.
Since then
The campaign ran during Big Billion Days 2026, with the experiential activation at North Studio, Mumbai on 3–4 October. No exchange-volume figures were reported.
