What it had to solve
The 'Feel Good Energy' campaign had to introduce a Gen Z electricity tariff and reframe a utility around sustainable energy.
The idea
Everyday plug sockets become karaoke stars, liberated by sustainable energy — real locations with 3D-tracked, lip-syncing faces
How it works
Directed by Johnny Kelly through Nexus Studios with agency Studio Sonntag, the films were shot on location for natural light and lived-in realism, then 3D facial animation and tracking added lip-sync — the positioning of two eyes or the scale of a mouth enough to change a socket's personality. Recording sessions gave animators reference for the actors' quirks, and the mix was deliberately high and low tech: 3D tracking and digital facial replacement alongside gags puppeteered on fishing lines, set to the karaoke classic 'Feeling Good'.
What it did
The campaign accompanied the tariff launch itself; no media or sales figures are reported.
Background
'After a lifetime spent channelling electricity from questionable sources, the humble household plug socket finally has something to sing about.' That is the premise of 'Feel Good Energy', Nexus Studios' campaign for Austrian energy company Energie AG, directed by Johnny Kelly with agency Studio Sonntag — everyday outlets transformed into karaoke stars, liberated by the arrival of sustainable energy.
The work doubles as the launch of Austria's first electricity tariff designed for Gen Z — everyone up to 28 — making Energie AG the first energy provider across the German-speaking region to introduce such an offer.
Kelly's team crafted expressive characters from the simplest features, shot the films on location for natural light and lived-in realism, then added meticulously tracked 3D facial animation for comic timing and emotional nuance. 'I like mixing high and low tech,' Kelly said — 'while our VFX team did some absolutely incredible 3D tracking and digital facial replacement, we also had, for example, lots of things puppeteered on fishing lines. The final result is, I hope, a wonky cocktail.'
Why it lands
The character design is minimalist by rule — two dots and a mouth — so each socket's personality reads instantly.
Real locations plus digital lips split the difference between ad gloss and feed-native authenticity.
The song is the strategy: 'Feeling Good' attaches the feeling of clean energy to the outlet itself.
What you can take
Give the dullest object in the room the biggest emotion — the contrast does the differentiation for a commodity product.
