What it had to solve
Luxury perfumery is one of the most convention-bound design categories — symmetry, refinement and allure are practically its rules. Centdegres was asked to imagine a fragrance house that could live outside those rules.
The idea
Make entropy the brand: a fragrance house whose packaging celebrates disorder — asymmetrical structures and deconstructed graphics — so chaos itself becomes the luxury.
How it works
Centdegres built L'Entropiste — 'Master of Disorder' — as a radical fragrance house whose visual and structural identity fractures perfumery tropes: layered, deconstructed graphics, asymmetry suggesting disorder and liberation, and a molded-pulp bottle 'skin' co-designed and manufactured with Tianjin ZRP Green Packaging that allows complex three-dimensional shapes while staying recyclable and biodegradable.
What it did
Platinum Award at Pentawards 2025 in the Body, Health & Beauty category — the competition's top tier per category. The jury praised minimalism used for disruption and the unexpected marriage of concept and material.
Background
At Pentawards 2025 — the competition often called the Oscars of packaging design — the Platinum Award in Body, Health & Beauty went to L'Entropiste – Master of Disorder by French agency Centdegres. The project is a radical fragrance house whose packaging celebrates chaos as its creative currency.
Every detail works against perfumery's classic codes of symmetry, refinement and allure: layered, deconstructed graphics, and asymmetry that suggests disorder and liberation at once. The structural side went further — the bottle gets a bespoke 'skin' in molded pulp, co-designed and manufactured with Tianjin ZRP Green Packaging, which enables complex three-dimensional shapes while remaining recyclable and biodegradable.
The jury praised the way minimalism created disruption — a unique structure, unexpected material choices and details that stay true to the concept. For Pentawards, the project was part of an edition proving packaging is not just a vessel but an arena for creativity, identity and progress.
Why it lands
It inverted the category: where luxury perfume means symmetry and refinement, L'Entropiste made disorder the brand.
The concept went all the way to materials: a molded-pulp 'skin' gave asymmetry a physical form and a sustainability story at once.
Every detail destabilized expectations — deconstructed graphics, layered type, off-balance structures — turning chaos into a coherent system.
The top-tier Pentawards Platinum confirmed the idea held up against the world's best packaging work.
What you can take
When a category is bound by convention, the strongest identity is often its opposite. Chaos was made deliberate: asymmetry plus sustainable molded pulp gave 'disorder' a physical, ownable form.
Since then
Manufacturer ZRP described the collaboration as a milestone and 'the starting point of a new journey' for molded pulp in premium packaging — evidence that recyclable materials could carry avant-garde luxury identities rather than only eco positioning. The win added to Pentawards 2025's broader message that packaging acts as an arena for creativity and progress.
