ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo makes two OLED screens equal in a five-mode laptop

The 2026 ROG Zephyrus Duo pairs two identical 16-inch OLED touchscreens with a detachable keyboard and a 320-degree hinge.

What it had to solve

From 2020 to 2023, the ROG Zephyrus Duo's second screen was a tilted 'ScreenPad Plus' squeezed beside a cramped keyboard, and reviewers kept criticizing the layout. The 2026 redesign started over from the screens themselves.

How it works

ASUS's dual-screen gaming laptop line spent three years with an awkward arrangement: a tilted secondary 'ScreenPad Plus' panel attached above a keyboard with a narrow touchpad. Reviewers found the concept useful for watching chat or streams but kept calling the layout cramped.

For 2026, ASUS redesigned the ROG Zephyrus Duo around equality. Both displays are full-size 16-inch 3K OLED touchscreens with matching resolution, brightness and color, and the keyboard is now a larger magnetic unit with a centered touchpad that recharges when docked and works wirelessly over Bluetooth when lifted off.

The hinge rotates 320 degrees and a stand folds out, enabling five physical modes: dual-screen stacked, laptop, sharing with both screens flat, book, and tent. The integrated antenna keeps the wireless connection stable in every mode, and a redesigned cooling system — vapor chamber, liquid metal and a graphite sheet under the second display — keeps the double OLED panel machine usable.

The jury gave the device Red Dot Best of the Best 2026, highlighting that a user can lift the keyboard and present from anywhere in the room, literally changing their perspective. ASUS had not yet announced pricing at CES 2026, but the company reported users saying the equal-screen setup improved their daily workflow.

Why it lands

  • Identical screens remove the hierarchy that made earlier dual-screen laptops feel like a main display plus a gadget.
  • A detachable wireless keyboard turns a fixed clamshell into a configurable workstation.
  • Five physical modes let one machine cover focused work, gaming, sharing and face-to-face collaboration.
  • Designing the antenna and cooling around all modes, not just laptop position, made the flexibility actually usable.

What it did

The redesign won Red Dot Best of the Best 2026, with the jury praising a versatility that lets users present while moving around the room with the wireless keyboard. It was the Duo's first update in three years and gave 213% more screen area than the old ScreenPad layout; developers reported users saying the equal dual screens improved their whole workflow.

What you can take

When you add a second screen, fix the hierarchy first: two equal displays and a keyboard that can leave the device change how people use the machine, not just its spec sheet.

Since then

The ROG Zephyrus Duo was unveiled at CES in January 2026 with up to an Intel Core Ultra chip, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics, 64GB of RAM and two 3K OLED panels at 120Hz. It went on to win Red Dot Best of the Best 2026 in Product Design, joining the ZenBook Duo in establishing ASUS's twin-screen family.
