What it had to solve
Blend holiday charm with technology for a 21+ holiday shopping experience in New York City's Meatpacking District at Chelsea Market, built with experiential agency Invisible North.
The idea
Shoppers pose questions to a mirrored-screen tablet and hear personalised answers spoken by an AI voice — the Whiskey Guardian AI Experience.
How it works
On-site gifting shoppable via QR codes, custom video on the distillery's innovation and craft, a tasting bar with cocktails and neat pours, complimentary bottle engraving — and at the heart of the journey, the interactive AI display for two-way guest-retail conversation.
What it did
A shoppable brand experience that tied the Whiskey Guardian community program — Guardians engaging their local bars and restaurants — directly into holiday retail.
Background
In December 2023, Angel's Envy — the Louisville-based distiller of finished whiskeys — hosted a holiday shopping experience in New York City's Meatpacking District at Chelsea Market, made with experiential agency Invisible North for guests aged 21 and over.
The pop-up mixed retail and brand education: an assortment of on-site gifting made shoppable via QR codes, custom video content showcasing the distillery's commitment to innovation and craft, a tasting bar for cocktails and neat pours, and complimentary bottle engraving for a personalised touch.
At the heart of the shopping journey sat the Whiskey Guardian AI Experience, stemming from the brand's Whiskey Guardian program dedicated to whiskey education — a program in which each Guardian actively engages with their local bar and restaurant community. Through an interactive display with a mirrored-screen tablet, shoppers could pose questions and receive personalised answers spoken via AI voice output, a two-way interaction between guests and retail.
Why it lands
Holiday shoppers want gifts and a story; the pop-up put gifting, tasting and engraving in one room with education built in.
The AI experience extended the human Whiskey Guardian program — people who know their local scenes — into a format that could talk to every visitor.
A two-way Q&A beats a looping brand video for dwell time: visitors ask what they actually want to know about whiskey.
QR-code gifting made the inspiration immediately shoppable without leaving the experience.
What you can take
AI earns its place in retail when it answers the customer's own question in their own words — a concierge, not a screen loop.
Since then
The experience ran through the 2023 holiday season at Chelsea Market, positioning the Whiskey Guardian program — usually a bar-and-restaurant community effort — in front of holiday retail crowds in one of New York's busiest food markets.
