A Lyon studio known for its club-culture poster work was asked to do the art direction and graphic design for the French electronic musician's limited-edition F Communication box set.

Give every record in the box its own colour with a crisp cartoonish illustration, then press the vinyl itself in the same colour as its sleeve.

Each record sits in a differently coloured sleeve carrying a graphic illustration, offset by crisp type and zine-like monochrome sleeve notes — an identity-design approach to dance-music packaging.

The matching record-and-sleeve colours made the 1,000-copy edition a collector's object; It's Nice That celebrated the system as an innovative identity approach for dance music.

Released in 2016, the F Communication box set by French electronic musician Laurent Garnier came as a 1,000-copy limited edition with art direction and graphic design by Lyon-based studio Alles Gut. The studio's system was simple and repeatable: each record in the set is encased in a sleeve of a different colour, with a graphic illustration that reads as crisp yet cartoonish.

The illustrations are offset by crisp typography and zine-like monochrome sleeve notes, which It's Nice That described as 'an innovative approach to identity design for dance music'. The decisive detail is tactile: the vinyl record itself is pressed in the same colour as its packaging, so the colour system runs from spine to disc.

For Alles Gut — whose Transbordeur party work It's Nice That had already picked for its 2014 annual — the box set extended a poster-drawer's visual language into a collectible object, where the design is the reason to own the physical release.

It treats a box set as an identity system rather than one cover: per-record colours give a single object internal variety that rewards flipping through it.

Matching the vinyl colour to the sleeve makes the design decision physical — you only see the full idea in your hands, which is exactly what a limited edition sells.

The monochrome zine-style liner notes show restraint against the loud sleeves, keeping the system from collapsing into noise.

Colour-coding every unit of a limited edition turns a reissue into a collectible: with only a thousand copies, the packaging is the product.

The box set shipped in 2016 as a 1,000-copy limited edition. It's Nice That's May 2016 feature marked the studio's return to the site after two years and framed the sleeves as a high point in dance-music identity design; no sales figures were published.
