YUSHIN's FRA robot damps vibration and colour-codes its moving parts

What it had to solve
Take-out robots remove freshly moulded parts from injection machines, and FRA had to move with exceptional smoothness. The design had to combine an active vibration stabilisation system, stiffness-optimised geometry and a visual language that lets operators read the machine at a glance.
How it works
FRA is a high-end take-out robot from YUSHIN PRECISION EQUIPMENT, built to pull moulded parts out of injection machines. It carries one of the world's first active vibration stabilisation systems for a linear robot, keeping its movements particularly smooth while the robot stays connected to its environment.
Its geometry comes from computer calculations for maximum stiffness, and the design signature is the tapered shape of the main arm. A colour code supports the engineering: stationary parts are dark blue and moving parts metallic blue, so the machine's state is visible at a glance.
White LEDs show on and off status and make the machine seem alive. Red Dot's jury said the optimised design structure gives FRA excellent functionality, calling its geometry a visual highlight, and FRA won Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019.
