Wooting 80HE makes keyboard keys analog — 8kHz polling and 'Rappy Snappy' win over pros

Wooting's 80HE reads how far each key is pressed, adds true 8kHz polling and Rappy Snappy, and became the most-used keyboard among CS2 pros.

Wooting

The ideaA keyboard that reads how far each key is pressed, not just whether — hall-effect switches add adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger and Rappy Snappy.substantial

What it had to solve

Wooting's 60HE made Rapid Trigger a genre-defining feature for competitive gaming, and rivals (SteelSeries, Keychron) began copying it. Players kept asking for the same analog performance in a bigger layout with lower latency and sharper movement control.

How it works

Wooting, the Dutch keyboard maker founded in 2015, built its name on analog input: hall-effect sensors track exactly how far a key is pressed instead of treating every keypress as on/off. Its 60HE's Rapid Trigger — which resets and re-activates a key the instant you move — was widely copied by SteelSeries, Keychron and others. The 80HE, launched via a Founders' campaign in March 2024, took the idea further.

The 80HE pairs an 80% layout with 'true' 8kHz polling, scanning every key at 8,000Hz in sync for a stable input speed of around 0.125ms. It keeps Rapid Trigger and per-key adjustable actuation (0.1mm precision) and adds Rappy Snappy: choose two keys — such as A and D — and the one pressed deeper stays active, which CEO Calder Limmen says makes counter-strafing 'more snappier'. Settings are stored on the board and tuned in the browser-based Wootility app.

The market validated the idea immediately: within the first day of the Founders' campaign, more than 6,000 orders were placed and over €2.1 million raised, with pricing from $199.99. By June 2026, prosettings.net data showed Wooting as the most-used keyboard brand in Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite, with the 80HE at 27.51% of CS2 pros.

Why it lands

  • It questioned the binary keypress itself, measuring analog depth instead of just on/off — a first-principles rethink that opened a whole product line.
  • Software-defined features (Rapid Trigger, Rappy Snappy, DKS) made a keyboard upgradeable, with settings on-board and new features pushed to existing boards.
  • It solved a real competitive problem — faster re-trigger and snappier counter-strafing — that pro players could feel immediately.
  • The community Founders' campaign turned 6,000+ preorders and €2.1M into both revenue and word-of-mouth.

What it did

In its first day the Founders' campaign logged 6,000+ orders and raised over €2.1M (about $2.3M). By June 2026, prosettings.net data showed Wooting as the most-used keyboard brand in Counter-Strike 2 (80HE at 27.51% of players), Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite — and the analog Rapid Trigger concept it pioneered had been copied across the peripheral market.

What you can take

Question the binary itself: measuring how far a key is pressed turned a commodity keyboard into a platform for software-defined features (Rapid Trigger, Rappy Snappy) that rivals then copied.

Since then

The 80HE became Wooting's flagship and a staple of competitive FPS, with esports player TenZ later getting a signature 'Takeover' edition. Wooting kept iterating — 60HE+, 80HE and newer models — while maintaining four-year warranties and pushing new features to older boards, turning one hardware purchase into a long relationship. Rivals' adoption of Rapid Trigger confirmed Wooting had changed the peripheral landscape, exactly as its own product page claims.
