Zumtobel's THE EDITIONS line makes luminaires for exclusive architectural projects where design and longevity carry equal weight. In lighting, sustainability is usually treated as one feature, often just low energy use, while the lamp itself stays disposable; TALUNA set out to make durability itself the design brief.
How it works
TALUNA is a compact table lamp from THE EDITIONS, Zumtobel's curated series developed with architects, designers and lighting planners for exclusive architectural projects. Its brief was deliberately radical for the industry: sustainability as the starting point of product development, not a feature added afterward.
Zumtobel's designers worked on the principle 'as little as possible, as much as necessary.' Every component is modular and replaceable, including the LED, which Red Dot notes is now a rarity in lighting, and the housing is bent from recyclable sheet steel without welded joints, using less energy in production and leaving the joints visible as craft. Fewer components mean greater clarity, higher reliability and a longer service life.
The result is positioned as a lifelong companion rather than a disposable appliance: a glare-free light source and a sculptural interior object offered in ten carefully defined shades, with custom colors for interior designers. Red Dot awarded it Best of the Best 2026 in Lighting and Luminaires, with a jury citing lines reduced with remarkable discipline and a sustainability approach consistent from materials to replaceable light sources.
