TyC Sports' 'Rating' celebrates its lowest-rated moments for 30 years — El Ojo GP

Argentina's biggest sports channel marked 30 years not with record audiences but with thrilling moments almost nobody watched — El Ojo Sports Grand Prix.

What it had to solve

For three decades TyC Sports has been Argentina's sports reference, carrying mass events such as the World Cup, qualifiers and Davis Cup — but also disciplines with much smaller audiences. For its 30th anniversary the channel could have boasted about record numbers; instead it chose to spotlight emotional moments that happened when screens registered near-zero ratings.

How it works

For its 30th anniversary in 2025, TyC Sports — the Argentine channel accustomed to massive audiences for the World Cup, Davis Cup and football qualifiers — made a film that does the opposite of celebrating its numbers. 'Rating' shines a light on the thrilling moments of Argentine sport that took place when the audience registers were nearly empty, from less-followed disciplines the channel has broadcast for decades.

The creative argument, developed with agency Mercado McCann, was that these moments only reached anyone because they were transmitted: some became viral only after being shared, and had they never been aired nobody would have seen them. The campaign therefore reframes the rating — the industry metric that built TyC — as a poor measure of what a sports channel is worth, and revalidates the fan who stays through the intimate, less-massive moments full of passion and commitment to Argentine athletes.

Rather than a wall of statistics, the film lets the emotion of those little-watched scenes carry the point, challenging how sports audiences are understood at a moment when the channel itself was being celebrated. The idea won the El Ojo Sports Grand Prix at El Ojo de Iberoamérica 2025, along with a Bronze in the Film category, and stood out as a 30th-birthday statement built on humility instead of ratings boasts.

Why it lands

  • The channel inverted the metric that built it: celebrating near-zero ratings was a surprising, self-aware move for a ratings champion.
  • The idea turned the brand's history into the argument — decades of broadcasting low-audience disciplines became a service to Argentine sport, not a footnote.
  • It connected emotion to transmission: moments went viral only because TyC had aired them, so 'nobody watched' was reframed as 'we were there'.
  • The execution trusted the material: letting the moments themselves carry the message was stronger than any anniversary boast.

What it did

The film won the Grand Prix in El Ojo Sports at El Ojo de Iberoamérica 2025, plus a Bronze in Film, landing the message that a channel built on audience numbers chose its least-rated moments as the argument for its own value.

What you can take

A brand that lives by a metric can earn more by questioning it: for an anniversary, inverting your own success number into an insight makes the moment memorable instead of merely celebratory.

Since then

At El Ojo de Iberoamérica 2025, 'Rating' took the Grand Prix in the Sports category and a Bronze in Film, becoming a reference point in the Argentine industry's conversation about audience measurement. For TyC Sports, the film sat deliberately against the grain of its own 30-year identity — a channel whose historic justification is big audiences choosing to champion the moments that had almost none, and arguing that sports support runs deeper than the numbers on a screen.
