How it works
TinyPod is a silicone case that turns an Apple Watch into an iPod-sized handheld device. The $79 version includes a scroll wheel that physically rotates the watch's Digital Crown, so scrolling through watchOS feels like using a classic iPod; a $29 'lite' version omits the wheel and exposes the crown directly.
The idea goes beyond nostalgia. TinyPod is pitched as 'your phone away from phone': with a cellular Apple Watch inside, users can leave the iPhone at home and still get calls, messages, mobile payments and music. The company's argument was that minimalist 'dumbphone' gadgets are usually too underpowered, while the smartwatch is a powerful mini computer most people only wear.
The case fits Apple Watch Series 4 and later, SE and Ultra in three sizes. Using it means turning off wrist detection, which TinyPod frames as a feature: the watch gains multi-day battery life and still handles Apple Pay and Name Drop, with passcode authentication.
Tech reviewers read it as the most convincing take yet on the minimalist phone. The Verge noted that a similar iPod-Nano-inspired case from a few years earlier had never shipped and its wheel was nonfunctional, while TinyPod's wheel actually scrolls.
