Panasonic's 12.5cm F-PX70C frees the air purifier from floor space — Red Dot BoB 2026

Air purifiers faced a dilemma: high-performance models are bulky and dominate a room, while compact ones clean poorly. Panasonic set out to break that trade-off.
How it works
Air purifiers present a familiar dilemma: the units with real cleaning power tend to be bulky and visually dominant, while compact models often compromise performance. Panasonic's HVAC team set out to break that trade-off.
The answer was to challenge the assumption that a household appliance requires floor space. The F-PX70C is only 12.5cm wide, engineered with dual suction fans and air inlets on the front and underside so it can sit between furniture, against a wall or in a narrow alcove, with roughly half the footprint of its predecessor. A continuous vertical slat line ties the inlet and outlet together, giving the slim object a calm presence from every angle.
The concept, which Panasonic calls 'layout-free', earned the series Red Dot Best of the Best 2026 — the award's highest distinction — plus the iF Design Award 2026 and the Good Design Award. The Red Dot jury praised the 'exceptionally reduced design' and the powerful technology packed into an extremely compact format.
Why it lands

- A 12.5cm body and dual intake fans let the purifier live in gaps between furniture and walls, cutting its footprint to about half the prior model.

Since then
Launched in August 2025, the F-PX70C became Panasonic's design flagship for air: by May 2026 it had taken the top prize at Red Dot, an iF Design Award and a Good Design Award, and the company said it would keep pursuing the fusion of design and engineering. The 'layout-free' concept gave Panasonic a new product language for small living spaces.
