Televisions have traditionally been a technical presence in the room — housing, connections, visible depth. LG's brief for the W6 was to take its Wallpaper TV concept to the logical end: eliminate the device-ness entirely, so the TV becomes a seamless digital wall canvas.

The trick is not just thinness — speakers, power supply and support structure were designed as core components of the panel, not secondary elements wrapped in a box.
Connections are handled by a separate Zero Connect Box that can sit up to 10 meters away; image and sound are transmitted wirelessly with TÜV Rheinland-certified visually lossless quality, so only the power cable remains attached to the display. Cables and interfaces are removed from sight, changing the television's role in the room from technical hub to tranquil surface.
At the 2026 Red Dot Design Award, the W6 won Best of the Best — LG's top honour among 27 awards that year. The jury praised its radical simplicity: 'The LG OLED W6 appears as nothing more than a screen... less a device than an architectural surface.'
Why it lands
- Instead of hiding a thick TV in a wall cavity, LG integrated every component into the panel itself, so thinness comes from design restructuring rather than installation tricks.
- Moving all inputs to a wireless Zero Connect Box up to 10m away removes cables from sight entirely — the last physical link is a single power wire.
- The 9.9mm depth created a hard constraint that forced speakers, power and structure to be co-designed as the form, producing a genuinely new product category: a screen that reads as architecture.
- The jury adopted the idea's own language — 'architectural surface', 'tranquil surface' — showing the concept stayed legible through the finished object.

Since then
After the award, LG positioned the W6 as the flagship of its 2026 OLED line, alongside 27 Red Dot honours that year. Chung Wook-jun, head of the Corporate Design Center, said LG would keep developing customer-centric designs that blend naturally into living spaces, and the company pointed to the TÜV Rheinland certification as evidence that wireless picture quality need not compromise the idea.
