Honda's WN7 makes the battery the frame; UNI-ONE steers by body weight — Red Dot BoB 2026

Honda's designers posed a fundamental question: if you remove the fuel tank, the engine and the main frame that defined the motorcycle's look for decades, what is left? Their answer, framed as the 'Precision of Intrinsic Design' principle, was to stop borrowing from petrol bikes entirely and let electric architecture generate its own form.

The WN7, Honda's first full-size electric naked bike, makes the battery case the structural heart of the vehicle: it sits at the center of the body, flanked by the head pipe at the front and the swingarm pivot at the rear. With no conventional frame, volume disappears where the tank used to be, and the horizontal battery creates a slim, elongated silhouette. The signature horizontal-bar headlight doubles as a shared identity for future Honda electric motorcycles.

Alongside it, Honda's UNI-ONE mobility robot reduces the control interface to the body itself: the user sits and shifts weight, and Honda's Omni Traction Drive plus balance control translate posture into gentle omnidirectional movement, hands free. Concealed wheels and soft, rounded forms avoid any association with mobility aids, and the seated posture puts users at pedestrian eye level. The jury noted, 'You sit down, and as soon as you lean forwards, backwards or to the side, you begin to move. You immediately know how it works.'

Both products won Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 Best of the Best, the competition's highest distinction — Honda's third such honor since 2020, after the Honda e and Fastport eQuad. The jury called the WN7 'a change in direction for the design of electrically powered motorbikes' and praised UNI-ONE as 'a new, inclusive form of transport design that anyone can use.'
