What it had to solve
Bathrooms produce odour and humidity in short bursts, yet most fans run only when someone remembers to press a switch. Fresh, a Swedish ventilation maker, wanted a fan that handled the room by itself and looked quiet enough to live in a home bathroom.
How it works
Fresh, a Swedish ventilation maker, saw that bathroom air goes bad in short bursts nobody plans for: the room fills with odour and humidity, and a conventional fan runs only if someone thinks to switch it on. The brief was a fan that handled the bathroom by itself.
The Intellivent Sky therefore senses its room. Odour, humidity and light sensors decide when the air needs clearing, and a purist open-fan construction keeps the automatic operation silent. The few manual controls are nearly invisible: a gentle touch on the power button, seamlessly integrated into the front panel, wakes an LED control panel and its intelligent functions, while an app allows fine-tuning of the airing timer and humidity control.
The Red Dot jury called the fan visually simple and praised its well thought-out design and uncomplicated handling for giving the device high utility value; the project is preserved in the Red Dot Design Award archive.
