Banco de Chile flies a drone 4,270 km across the country — its first Cannes Gold
To lift Chile's pride, Banco de Chile and BBDO flew a drone 4,270 km over 90 days; the aerial record won Chile's only Cannes Gold 2025.
Banco de Chile
What it had to solve
Banco de Chile's stated purpose is to contribute to Chile's development and keep the country's name high. When BBDO was briefed to represent Chile at Expo Osaka 2025, the agency asked what could make Chileans proud: film the country as it had never been filmed before.
How it works
Banco de Chile's stated purpose is to contribute to Chile's development and keep the country's name high. With BBDO Chile, it responded with 'Proyecto 4270', named for the 4,270 kilometres of national territory: one continuous drone journey capturing, from the country's far north to Cape Horn, the landscapes Chile contains.
For 90 days the drone crew flew the country's length, gathering images that were cut into a single audiovisual record produced with Alaska Films. The film ran at the Chile Pavilion of Expo Osaka 2025 — an exhibition expected to reach more than 30 million visitors — premiered on Chilean open television in September, and its images were released free as a photo library for schools and the public.
At Cannes Lions 2025 the project won a Gold Lion in Industry Craft, in the Photography: Brand & Communications Design subcategory, among more than 26,000 entries. It was the only Gold Lion won by a Chilean company that year and the first in Banco de Chile's 130+ year history — proof that a bank's purpose can be carried by content people actually want to watch.
Why it lands
- The bank traded its own story for the country's: an aerial portrait of 4,270 km of territory that Chileans had never seen as one continuous view.
- The scale made the gesture credible — a 90-day drone traverse of the whole country, not a stock-footage montage.
- Showing the record at the Chile Pavilion of Expo Osaka 2025 gave a local pride project a global stage with a projected audience of 30M+ visitors.
- The Cannes Gold — Chile's only Gold and the bank's first in 130+ years — confirmed that purpose-led brand content can win on craft, not just sentiment.
What it did
The work won a Gold Lion at Cannes Lions 2025 in Industry Craft (Photography: Brand & Communications Design), judged among more than 26,000 entries. It was Chile's only Gold of the festival and the first Gold Lion in Banco de Chile's 130+ year history; at Expo Osaka 2025 the exhibition was expected to reach more than 30 million visitors.
What you can take
A 130-year-old institution can renew its role by giving people something they have never seen: an unprecedented aerial record of the whole country turns a bank into the nation's storyteller.
Since then
After the Cannes Gold, Proyecto 4270 became a national gift: the film premiered on 7 September 2025 on Banco de Chile's digital channels and open TV (Mega and Canal 13), hundreds of high-resolution aerial photos were made freely downloadable for educational and cultural use, a print book of the imagery was given to schools, and the film kept showing at the Chile Pavilion of Expo Osaka 2025.
