Lifebuoy's Condensation Cleanser turns cold drinks into a handwash — Spikes 2025 Gold

A 5cm antibacterial sticker turns any cold drink into a soapy handwash — 50,000+ hands cleaned at its Mumbai launch.

Lifebuoy (Unilever) · MullenLowe Singapore

The ideaPut Lifebuoy's antibacterial formula in a sticker on cold drinks: condensation activates a real handwash, turning a fake habit into hygiene.substantial

What it had to solve

Lifebuoy's mission is hand hygiene for people who lack soap and running water, and in India most people eat with their hands. After Covid, people again wiped fingers on cold-drink condensation and passed it off as handwashing, while traditional hygiene PSAs were tuned out and could never cover a country of 1.4 billion.

How it works

In India, where eating with hands is the norm and many people have no easy access to soap and running water, a common post-Covid habit made hand hygiene worse: wiping fingers on the condensation of a cold drink and calling it handwashing.

Rather than lecture people out of the habit, MullenLowe Singapore built a product into it. The Condensation Cleanser is a 5cm by 3cm sticker infused with Lifebuoy's patented antibacterial formulation; when condensation forms on a cold drink, the dry agent dissolves into a cleanser that cleans hands without residue. The sticker was both the creative work and the media channel, turning every conceivable beverage into a potential placement.

It launched in March 2024 at The Lil Flea, a Mumbai summer festival with over 50,000 attendees where handwashing facilities were scarce or queued, then spread to street-side food stalls. The launch cleaned over 50,000 hands and gave roughly 100 stalls access to hand hygiene at no cost, and it earned the ADFEST 2025 Outdoor Bronze, a Spikes Asia 2025 Media Gold and an LIA Bronze.

Why it lands

  • It turns a universal bad habit into the distribution channel, so nobody has to learn a new behaviour to get cleaner hands.
  • The sticker is simultaneously product, advertisement and media placement, collapsing the campaign into the object itself.
  • Scaling is inherent: any cold drink anywhere can carry the cleanser, matching Lifebuoy's mass-market hygiene purpose.
  • Launching at a 50,000-person festival proved demand before betting on national distribution.

What it did

Over 50,000 hands cleaned at launch, and an estimated 100 street-side stalls gained handwashing access at no cost. The sticker won the ADFEST 2025 Outdoor Lotus Bronze, a Spikes Asia 2025 Media Gold and an LIA Bronze.

What you can take

Instead of fighting a bad habit, embed the solution in the habit itself: the product and the media become the same object, so hygiene arrives with zero behaviour change.

Since then

After the March 2024 launch in Mumbai, ADFEST's 2025 jury recorded that Lifebuoy was in confidential talks with major beverage brands, F&B chains and retailers to distribute the Condensation Cleanser through their own channels. The campaign picked up an Outdoor Lotus Bronze at ADFEST 2025, a Media Gold at Spikes Asia 2025 and a Bronze at the London International Awards, becoming a cited example of purpose-led innovation where the product itself does the scaling.
