Dyson's oral-care research found people consistently miss the spaces between teeth, where plaque first forms, and that flossing is a chore almost nobody sustains. James Dyson set three problems: see the gaps, remove plaque, and improve cleaning while brushing. After years of development by more than 600 engineers, the CameraJet was revealed in Paris on 1 September 2026.

On 1 September 2026 in Paris, James Dyson unveiled the CameraJet, an electric toothbrush with a 100,000-pixel macro camera built into the brush head — the first toothbrush of its kind, priced at $499 in the US and £419.99 in the UK. Dyson's research argued that people skip flossing and consistently miss the interdental gaps where plaque first forms and hardens. The camera works with a strobe flashing at 257Hz and an on-device AI Dyson calls Gap Optical Targeting. The system analyses 28 live images every second and, within 100 milliseconds of detecting a gap, triggers a conical burst of mouthrinse from a 12.5ml tank, so flossing is done automatically while the user brushes. Dyson says the wide jet was designed to sweep plaque away at lower pressure, unlike the needle-type jets of conventional water flossers, which can pierce plaque without removing it; no images are recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.

The engineering goes deep into the details a camera makes possible: the head oscillates nearly 1,000 times a second with a variable anti-stall angle so bristles keep moving even in hard-to-reach spots; softer outer bristles clean along the gumline while firmer inner bristles lift stains; each head's RFID tag counts cleans and prompts replacement roughly every three months. An anti-gravity tank with a diaphragm pump keeps jets consistent in any orientation, the dock refills the mouthrinse tank in three seconds, and Wi-Fi livestreaming lets users watch their own brushing in the MyDyson app.

Dyson treats the product as a complete dental system, adding its own non-foaming toothpaste and low-foaming mouthrinse so foam does not block the camera's view. Scottish Dental reported that more than 600 engineers and 38 patents sit behind the launch, and reaction focused on the behavior-change potential: a London dentist quoted in the article called live camera feedback "a brilliant piece of behavioural design" that could turn brushing into a habit people finally see themselves doing properly.
