British Airways' 'Reflections': the world from a window seat, logo on the engine (2025)
Four British photographers shot views from BA cabin seats; the logo appears only as an engine reflection — a wordless series that won One Show Golds.
British Airways
What it had to solve
British Airways' 'A British Original' platform, built with Uncommon Creative Studio and media agency MG OMD, had opened with the 2024 'Windows' campaign — close-ups of passengers' faces lit by the world outside the aircraft, which had been celebrated at Cannes for its minimal branding. The 2025 brief was to go further: sell the experience of flying itself rather than routes or prices, in premium out-of-home placements across UK key regions and travel hubs.
How it works
British Airways' 'A British Original' platform, launched in 2022, had found its signature in the 2024 'Windows' campaign: close-ups of passengers' faces as they looked out at the world, with almost no branding. Uncommon Creative Studio and media agency MG OMD had shown that minimal art direction could carry airline advertising. The question for 2025 was how to follow a campaign about looking out — by selling the view itself.
So Uncommon sent four British photographers — Laura Pannack, Jack Johnstone, Catherine Hyland and Cian Oba-Smith — across three continents to shoot entirely in-camera from real BA flights, through cabin windows. The logo appears only as a reflection on the engine: about a quarter of the mark, reversed and half-opaque, so the letters 'BRIT' reflected in blue are unmistakable without being shouted. BA pilots advised on flight paths and engineers picked aircraft that would catch the reflection; scenes range from New York skyscrapers and Bahamian waters to the British countryside.
The result is a wordless outdoor series with no headline and no product shot — only the view from a window seat with the mark caught on the engine. At The One Show 2026 'Reflections' won Gold Pencils in Design in Advertising plus Best of Discipline in that category, contributed to Uncommon being named Europe's Agency of the Year, and later took an Outdoor Lion at Cannes Lions 2026.
Why it lands
- The campaign trusts decades of brand recognition: a quarter of a logo reflected on an engine is enough, because British Airways had spent years earning the full mark.
- Reversing the lens — 'Windows' looked in at passengers, 'Reflections' looks out at what they see — evolved the platform instead of restarting it.
- Real in-camera craft with four named photographers on real flights gives the imagery an authenticity compositing could not fake.
- Framing each ad from an actual BA seat ties destination, aircraft and mark together naturally, making the branding feel discovered rather than placed.
- A wordless series forces attention in premium out-of-home, where every competing ad is shouting a headline.
What it did
The wordless series — no headline, no product shot, only the view with the reflected mark — ran on premium out-of-home across the UK with dynamic builds planned for winter. At The One Show 2026 it won Gold Pencils in Design in Advertising plus Best of Discipline in that category, helped make Uncommon Europe's Agency of the Year, and later took an Outdoor Lion at Cannes Lions 2026.
What you can take
When a brand is truly iconic, subtract: a quarter of the logo reflected on an engine can carry an ad that a full mark and headline could not — recognition is built for years, then spent sparingly.
Since then
'Reflections' became the next chapter of 'A British Original', with MG OMD planning premium outdoor placements and dynamic builds that reacted to winter weather and darker drive times. The campaign carried the agency: with two Design in Advertising Gold Pencils and Best of Discipline at The One Show 2026, it helped Uncommon become Europe's Agency of the Year and third in the global rankings, and the work later claimed an Outdoor Lion at Cannes Lions 2026, extending the airline's award-winning run that had begun with 'Windows'.
