Baton Transport rebrands as change's foundation: a solid yet flexible wordmark

European line-haul carrier Baton escapes generic trucking branding with an identity whose wordmark is solid yet flexible — and always adapting.

What it had to solve

Baton Transport is a leading European line-haul logistics company running road transport across 12 countries for global logistics companies such as DHL and DB Schenker. Realising that its generic market positioning was being challenged by increasing competition, it set out to define a brand platform and build a new visual identity on top of it.

How it works

Baton Transport runs line-haul road freight across 12 European countries, moving goods for global logistics companies such as DHL and DB Schenker. Realising that its generic market positioning was being squeezed by increasing competition, the company set out to define a brand platform and build a new visual identity on top of it.

The road-transport industry is conservative, so the design decision was to make the identity argue Baton's own mission: to drive change — and diversity — within the sector. The wordmark became the primary carrier of that idea: solid like the foundation the company wants to be, yet flexible enough to keep adapting to the inevitable challenges of pushing a traditional industry forward.

Bold Scandinavia built the rest of the system from contemporary elements that project a strength and confidence rarely seen in trucking, and applied it across the brand identity and digital experience. The process united a geographically and culturally diverse organisation behind one clear identity.

The result was a deliberate visual break in a category full of interchangeable brands, giving the company's strategy a face. The work won Silver at the Creative Circle Awards 2024 and is archived in D&AD's Branding awards list; neither page carries commercial metrics.

Why it lands

  • The wordmark is the first and most repeated element, so making it carry the mission guarantees the idea is actually seen.
  • 'Solid yet flexible' is a design principle the logo can perform, not a slogan the brand merely claims.
  • In a conservative category full of heavy, interchangeable brands, contemporary design is differentiation by itself.
  • An identity rooted in the company's own drive for change and diversity gives employees across 12 countries one story to rally behind.

What it did

The rebrand gave a geographically and culturally diverse organisation one clear platform, built internal pride and made a bold statement in the trucking industry. It won Silver at the Creative Circle Awards 2024 and is archived in D&AD's Branding awards list; neither page carries commercial metrics.

What you can take

In a conservative industry where every brand looks heavy and interchangeable, let the identity carry the strategy: a wordmark that is solid yet flexible demonstrates the change you sell.

Since then

The identity and the logo were honoured at the Creative Circle Awards 2024 — Silver for the identity and a shortlist for the logo — and the rebrand is archived in D&AD's Branding awards list. The case stands as an example of an industrial, business-to-business brand refusing to look like its category, using its own identity to demonstrate the change it sells rather than matching competitors' heavy, generic visual language.
