Pringles' flying mustaches rescue Super Bowl snacking — 7.5B impressions, Effie Gold
Adam Brody blows an empty Pringles can and mustaches fly off Offerman, Harden and Coach Reid to restock the party — 7.5B impressions and a 2026 Gold Effie.
Pringles (Kellanova)
What it had to solve
Pringles had advertised at the Super Bowl eight years running, yet ranked 30th of 59 on the 2024 USA Today Ad Meter and, despite high awareness, still was not being chosen in-store. Super Bowl Sunday is snacking's biggest occasion — 28.9 million pounds of chips — and shoppers pick their snacks weeks early, so the brand needed a month-long reason to buy, not another :30 spot.
How it works
Pringles had been a Super Bowl regular for eight years, but in 2024 it ranked 30th of 59 ads on the USA Today Ad Meter. Consumers knew the brand; they just were not reaching for it. With snack choices made weeks before game day, Pringles and FCB New York needed a pre-game idea with real purchase pull, not another awareness spot.
The idea grew from the brand's most distinctive asset: Mr. P's mustache. A survey found 69% of snackers agreed 'Mr. P is hiding secrets in his mustache', and a cultural mustache renaissance gave the joke currency. So Mr. P became a Pied Piper: Adam Brody, out of Pringles at a party, blows into an empty can, and iconic mustaches — Nick Offerman's, James Harden's, Chiefs coach Andy Reid's — detach and fly in with fresh cans, set to a playful take on the heroic 1960s Batman theme.
The :30 was only the finale. For a month, Pringles teased four mustached silhouettes, riffed on the mysterious New Jersey drone sightings, put 78 mustacheless Andys on Kansas City's digital billboards, and sent Jimmy Kimmel Live's Guillermo on a quest for his missing mustache. Twenty brands — Captain Morgan, Mr. Monopoly, the GEICO Gecko, Scrub Daddy and the Minions among them — let their mascots' mustaches join, turning the campaign into a cultural moment that aired its centerpiece to 137.7 million viewers.
The campaign logged 7.5 billion earned impressions, tested in the top 1% of 2025 Super Bowl ads (Ipsos), made iSpot's top-10 likability list, and lifted unit sales 8.4% versus the prior year's Super Bowl window. It earned a Gold Effie and Grand Effie contender slot at the 2026 Effie Awards US Gala.
Why it lands
- It promoted the brand's most distinctive asset — Mr. P's mustache — instead of inventing a message from scratch.
- Humor had a job: it made the brand's playfulness a reason to choose Pringles in-store, not just to watch the ad.
- Recruiting 20 brands' mascots turned a paid Big Game spot into co-created, shareable media before kickoff.
- The campaign was built for the month before the game, when snacking purchase decisions actually happen.
What it did
The One Show entry reports 7.5 billion earned impressions, Ipsos rankings in the top 1% of 2025 Super Bowl ads and top 10% of ads ever tested, an iSpot top-10 likability score, and an 8.4% unit-sales lift versus the comparable 2024 Super Bowl window in the two weeks after launch (NielsenIQ). The work was a Gold winner and Grand Effie contender at the 2026 Effie Awards US Gala.
What you can take
Turn the mascot's most useless feature into the hero and let other brands join the joke: borrowed IP turns a single ad into a month of co-created media.
Since then
The 2025 Big Game work capped Pringles' eighth consecutive Super Bowl campaign and became its most awarded in years: Gold Effie at the 2026 Effie Awards US Gala, One Show recognition in 2025, and Ipsos and iSpot performance honors. Kellanova also tied new game-day flavors — Loaded Potato Skins, 7-Layer Dip and a Miller Lite collaboration — to the launch, extending the mustache platform from the spot into retail shelves through 2025.
