McDonald's Finland's McDrip turns used uniforms into fashion only employees can wear
To make McDonald's cool again for Gen Z job seekers, Finland had Jimi VAIN turn used uniforms into a McDrop collection available only to employees.

What it had to solve
Gen Z no longer saw McDonald's as a cool employer and job applications from fast food's primary workforce were falling. The uniform itself had become the stigma; the brand needed to make it something young workers would wear with pride.
How it works
McDonald's had a recruiting problem specific to the industry: Gen Z no longer saw it as a cool employer, and applications from the age group that staffs fast food were falling.
The brand's read was precise — the uniform was the stigma. To make the McDonald's uniform something Gen Z could wear with pride, McDonald's Finland teamed up with up-and-coming fashion designer Jimi VAIN.
VAIN designed the McDrop collection from used McDonald's uniforms. It launched on TikTok and spread organically — everybody wanted a piece, but the collection was available only to McDonald's Finland employees, so the job itself became the access.
McDrip flipped employer branding into a scarcity play: the most wanted fashion drop of the moment doubled as a recruitment poster, and the work is preserved in the D&AD awards archive.
Why it lands
- Applications were down in the exact age group fast food depends on, so the fix had to target Gen Z's perception of the job.
- Attacking the uniform attacked the visible source of the stigma rather than an abstract employer image.
- An employee-only drop makes the job the way to get the product, so wanting the clothes means wanting the work.
- Launching on TikTok let the collection spread organically in the channel where the target audience already lives.
What it did
The uniform stopped being something to hide and became something to earn: the collection was wanted by everyone but available only to staff, spreading organically on TikTok as proof that working at McDonald's was cool — the work is held in the D&AD awards archive.
What you can take
When recruitment is the problem, make the job itself the reward: an employee-only drop turns the uniform from stigma into status and the application into the way in.
Since then
McDrip turned McDonald's Finland's uniforms into a designer collection that everyone wanted but only employees could own. The employee-only scarcity made working at McDonald's the route to the drop, and the campaign is preserved in the D&AD awards archive as an answer to a recruiting problem.
